Stand goal 50% completed while sleeping following 3.1.1 update

I updated my series 2 watch without issue (though it did take a while) - had not read about the issues it's been causing - so guess I was lucky!

However, I have noticed it is saying I'm standing regularly overnight, even though I'm sleeping. I know I'm asleep as my whithings sleep sensor thing shows I am. It's doing it when I'm wearing it and when it's in charge.

Not sure what is going on. Anyone else noticing this?

I tried to reply to your post about the removal of case numbers, but I kept getting a page error. It seems like you are getting nowhere. You know ultimately the watch has to go back for repair. There is no other answer. So you need to try to contain yourself when talking to a "Genius." Act nice. Say you want to restore the Firmware to 3.1. It was easier for me because when I went his watch was on "the latest" version 3.1 and I was on 3.1.1, and it may have been easier to convince him. He didn't even know the 3.1.1 was issued or removed. Now however, he is probably on the latest 3.1.3, and it will be harder to convince him. But that's the only solution. If the stand hours are important to you, you have to go back to 3.1!!!!

I do have this issue until now. Has there been any update on this? Anyone tried to worked out a solution?

I tried the suggestion to recalibrate the Watch, however I stopped as when I clicked on "reset calibration data", it asked me if I am sure i want to permanently delete my calibration data and history.

History = does this mean all of my activity history (ie. Move, Exercise, Stand and even my Workouts and Achievements)?

Of course I dont want to delete them, I worked hard so much to achieved all those and just to recalibrate the watch all of those need to be deleted? Please dont.

I picked up my Watch at the Apple Store yesterday after Apple having it for over 2 weeks (since they didn't do anything the first time I had them send it back). I had asked specifically to have v3.1 of WatchOS restored but was told yesterday that they couldn't do that as they can only roll back so many versions. They replaced the watch under AppleCare with a new refurbished one, it has v3.1.3 on it. Last night I wore it to bed and it too has the problem with recording stand hours while sleeping. I was told by everyone involved in this process (AppleCare technician, Senior Advisor, Genius Manager (mutually exclusive terms?), and Genius that the Watch does not do sleep tracking and was not intended to wear to bed. I just wanted to use the silent alarm.

So take this to heart, the Apple Watch is not intended to wear to bed. Apple is stating this pretty clearly, maybe in a future version they will decide to market it that way after they fix the issue.

That position by Apple makes absolutely no sense to me. Apple actively promotes third party sleep apps. The sleep app I use 'Auto Sleep' is not recording me standing in the middle of the night. That app clearly knows how to access the motion sensor data and distinguish between laying down and standing up. It makes me think this issue is purely a firmware or software issue.

Hi,

I feel so sorry for you because I feel you have been deceived. Of course you are supposed to wear your watch to sleep. What if you are using the "Pillow" app, or another sleep cycle type app? It is designed for Apple Watch for when you sleep. I used it when I first got my watch, before the 3.1.1 update, and it worked like a charm. I don't use it now because I know my sleep cycle is the same, so I am not so interested in it now. But, I wear my watch to sleep because I want it to record my heart-rate all night, and I like to tap it to see the time if I wake up during the night. Also, I like having the SOS right with me at all times. I don't carry my phone around since I got the watch. It is somewhere in my house, but not with me. That's the point of the watch!!
I guess I went back at the right time because it was only a single rollback. I wonder if everyone has this problem and they don't know it, or if only some unlucky people have it. Anyone using the Activity App would know.

"Apple Watch is not intended for wearing to bed" argument is moot when you consider this issue can happen during the day as well. It is more prominent for the sleep time, since you know you are not moving (much). It is less prominent during the day, since you might not be as sure that you have not been moving for the past however many hours - unlike sleep. But as I have kept paying attention I noticed that you can get a standing hour while sitting, just typing away.

I don't know if you (xenopain) are correct about "a standing hour". You can get steps recorded from the movement of your arm. I have had steps recorded sitting in the car knitting, so I can understand typing. But for stand time you must get up and move around for a period of time in order to get the hour.

I have definitely had cases where I get the notification to stand up, keep typing or lift my arm to have a look and get another notification for getting the stand hour. I don't think this is specific to night time or sleeping.

We all know that for standing hour to work, you should get up and move around (about 100 steps) to make it count, yet it is obviously broken while you are sleeping and you get some "standing hour" credit. All I am saying is this happens during the day as well.

Hello Xenopain,

Try to unpair und pair your watch again and restore from backup (unpair) will create a backup on your phone so you don't loose any activity or other data on your watch or you can try to recalibrate your watch only. I had to do this on the Weekend, as my iPhone had been replaced through Apple on Saturday. Until Monday evening I still had Phantom stands in my activity, but after the upgrade to 3.2 of WatchOS it was fine. I assume the combination of re-pairing the watch and the new release of WatchOS fixed my issue.

I hope this steps helps you as well and the others with the same issue.
