Stand goal 50% completed while sleeping following 3.1.1 update

I updated my series 2 watch without issue (though it did take a while) - had not read about the issues it's been causing - so guess I was lucky!

However, I have noticed it is saying I'm standing regularly overnight, even though I'm sleeping. I know I'm asleep as my whithings sleep sensor thing shows I am. It's doing it when I'm wearing it and when it's in charge.

Not sure what is going on. Anyone else noticing this?

Hi

For the purpose of crediting the hourly Stand achievement, your watch aims to identify when you have stood up and moved around for at least one minute during that hour.

Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to identify movement. It is possible that your arm movements during the night are sufficient to cause progress to be credited.

The following steps may help:

Calibrate your watch (follow the instructions in the linked article below). Calibration enables your watch to more accurately estimate various fitness and activity-related results. It does this by teaching your watch how your arm moves when you are walking and/or running:

Activity estimations also depend on your personal information. To check that this is accurate (and to update it over time):

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Health > Edit (upper-right).

Restart both your iPhone and your watch:

Thanks Jonathan,

I'm not convince re-calibration will fix the issue as it racks up stand hours even when charging over night... it's the only metric that has gone wrong since the update and was working fine before.

That said, I have reset the calibration data and checked all settings and will recalibrate later when I go out, using the outdoor walk activity mode. Then I shall see what happens over night.

Your watch certainly should not record Stand hours when it is on the charger.

If restarting your devices does not help, next try unpairing and re-pairing your watch:

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance, including to arrange service under warranty, if recommended:

I have the same issue and I tried Jonathan suggestions but after a few our today I can say it is not working and I had contacted support yesterday, which did recommend to repair watch and iPhone again as well. After the update is called back I assume there are more issues with this version and I hope the new version will fix the stay activity. Does anyone know if there is a way to downgrade to 3.1 again?

Just to add on to this, past hour correctly started as idle and I was reminded to stand up at the end. And my normal amount walk around the building got registered as a stand hour exactly the same way as it was before. So this is most likely not an activity tracking issue, but some other app/feature interfering with the data.

I am linking to this post as I had a similar post today. I think there are some people that do not realize that "Stand Time" and "Steps" are entirely different. You cannot move your arm during the night and record Stand Time. Maybe steps mistakenly because of the movement of your arm. But to record Stand Time you have to be moving around for at least 60 seconds. This is impossible. I went through this with support before I even posted here and their only suggestion was;

"hopefully the engineers will find a resolution as quickly as possible. Please be sure to chat back if you have any other issues. You can refer to case number xxxxxx if you need to contact us again.
