Apple watch screen has become dim.

I have noticed that my Apple Watch 1st edition has become very dim to where I can't see the time in the daylight. I went into a Target store the other day and saw on display the new Apple Watch as well as the 1st edition. When looking at the screen on the both of them, they are much brighter than my screen has become. I have adjusted it to its fullest brightness but it still is very dim compared to new watches. I doubt that there is anything I can do about it and to repair it would cost as much as a new version 1 watch. Make sure you get Apple care in case things like this happen. I didn't as I expected an Apple product to be of good enough quality. I haven't damaged the watch in any way, the screen has just become very dim.

Hi

When comparing watches, keep in mind that the display on Apple Watch Series 2 is twice as bright as the display on Apple Watch (1st generation).

If the screen on your watch is dimmer than it should be, the following steps may help:

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Close the Watch app on your iPhone and restart both devices:

Unpair and re-pair your watch:

If the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider to arrange for your watch to be inspected and to establish your available service options, likely timescales and cost:

Out-of-warranty repair service prices vary, depending on your Apple Watch model:

I'm afraid that there is neither any list nor any benefit to being on one.

Add me to the list of apple watches that have become too dim to use. Just started to happen, had it for two years now. Not a long life for such an expensive device. I'm starting to believe this may have been a build quality or defect issue with the Apple Watch 1 edition. Was hoping to pass this on to my dad for him to enjoy it while I upgrade but if this sort of thing is acceptable for apple than I may look elsewhere for my next watch.

Add me to the list. I noticed it after getting the iPhone X. Thought it might have something to do with that, but it doesn't. I'm going to wait for Watch OS 4.2 and see if that helps. But it is useless daytime outside and barely useful inside with lights on. Battery level is good and not in a power save mode. Doesn't matter if brightness is done on the iphone or watch. It's dim in the center of the screen. 2-3mm from the edge it's normal, but everywhere else is dim and pink.

Jonathan, let me clarify something. I have done all what you have suggested. My watch face is dimmer on the upper right hand side of the screen and brighter on the bottom left. It is almost like a smudge begins on the top right and radiates down to the left. At night, I can see the screen but during the day, it is so dim that I can't read the time without shielding it from ambient light.

I realize that the new Apple Watch is brighter. My watch is much dimmer than a new model of the old Apple Watch. I compared them at a store the other day. I believe it is a hardware problem and not because of any damage that I have done. I have not dropped it, exposed it to water or anything else that I would imagine could cause this. For the money I spent on this watch, I could have had a really nice mechanical or digital watch. I don't want to spend another $250 to get this fixed or another $400 for a new Series 2 watch. I just want to let people know what has happened to my watch so that they can prepare themselves for this possibility.
