"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store" keeps popping up

Hello,

I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina and I've been using iTunes just fine for the past few years. This morning, however, I noticed a problem. Every time I play a song, this pop-up appears:

Of course this doesn't pop-up when I am connected. This is getting extremely frustrating. I've tried logging out of my account as well as clearing any remaining downloads, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

I just updated to 12.5.4.42 on my mac with OS X 10.12.2. Same problem.

It would seem our 'friends' in Cupertino want to know what music we are playing at anytime. I am disconnected from the net on this computer and am running it as a music server. The iTunes Remote won't allow playing until the error message is acknowledged. Nice work iTunes team. Another form of tracking that doesn't work as intended. I'm growing more tired and frustrated with Apple every day and their constant information gathering. And we thought Microsoft was bad.
