Spotlight - Safari History quitting
MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
24 hours after installing:
Security Update 2016-003 Supplemental Update
iTunes 12.5.5
Safari 10.0.3
my issue seems to be fixed. Spotlight works properly and didn't crash once. Huge difference from crashing each time it launched.
One last thing I'd like to add is Apple do listen and read our posts. Two weeks ago I received a call from an Apple engineer who was investigating the issue described in my original post. He asked me to send two reports/registers stored on my Mac in order for them to investigate the problem.
Brent thanks for calling and hopefully what I did provide you with was useful to fix the issue.
Safari 10.0.3 Resolved the crashing spotlight issue.
I was also contacted by Apple Engineers a few weeks ago now, and provided logs for their review. It's great to see the follow up and most importantly the update pushed out fairly quickly.
I have this same issue after updating Safari this AM. I've tried clearing Safari History and turning off Safari functions of Spotlight - even taking my hard drives out of Spotlight indexing (via Privacy settings) . Error message appears frequently even if Safari is not running.
Hi there,
Reindexing the HD didn't work. Spotlight keeps failing, same error message.
Any other idea on how to fix it?
I am having the same issue, what I did is a system restore, after restore the OS is working. I am not "updating" safari to 10.0.2 until this issue is being solved. Here is the link on how to restore the os: http://osxdaily.com/2016/02/09/howto-reinstall-os-x-mac-recovery/
Thanks for the heads up.
Although I won't restore OS X for this, I'd rather to find a fix.
Spotlight not working see post by Linc Davis and other suggestions.
I'm having the same issue.
I did a clean install of El Capitan, and the same error happens with any access to Spotlight. I'm going to try a few of these suggestions, but I'm not holding my breath...
Did you "update" to Safari 10.0.2 ?
I did a reinstall of the OS and did not update Safari to the newest version (10.0.2) niether update Security to 2016-003 10.11.6 and my sistem is working fine. I think that the error pops after tha latest update.
That is correct. Didn't have any problem before updating to the last Safari version and Security update.
That error in Spotlight appeared only after the latest update.
And along with that I experience Safari as well getting irresponsive and super slow.
Tried pretty much everything you guys suggested with no result.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.
Feedback
Appears that you are part of a conspiracy of many .... Apple denies the existence of this issue. Also that there was a recent update that causes this issue. Appears to you and me and others, well, we installed a July update. Really! Also appears that their 100,000 employees 1. do not have internet access to do an ordinary Google search; 2. are not using Apple machines with your and my O.S.; 3. if they are, they did not get the same Safari and Security updates we did; 4. if they did, it was in July and caused no problems for them.
Invested 3 hours with senior techs. to hear deflections.
You see, it is MY machine and MY profile. Not their failure.
Perhaps you also can write about this in the pres..
Thanks for taking the time to write to me Steve, I get the picture. I've sent many feedbacks to Apple on this. And tried pretty much every suggestion in here.
I think I'll give Alfred a chance for the time being.
Sorry... Alfred?
