Spotlight - Safari History quitting
MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
Keep sending the "Reports" every time you get the error message.
Just got off the phone with Apple support.
Reinstalled my 10.11.6 El Capitan and Spotlight is working properly again. Hooray! Took about 40minutes but it's back.
You'll need your Apple ID and password.
Did the "cmd r" with a Reinstall macOS.
I also did that and my sistem is working fine. Didi you installed the latest security update an safari update after you re-installed the OS?
Confused.
What do you mean by ".. it's back."
Do you mean that Spotlight is back and you no longer have the original issue?
It's back refers to Spotlight. Current Safari is Version 9.1.2 (11601.7.7).
App Store updates show 10.0.2 is available. So no, not updated Safari, and for now - not going anywhere near it!
Thanks.
Regrettably, I updated to Safari 10.0.2 as pushed by Apple.
That triggered the issues.
Since one cannot uninstall Safari, wonder if you can "bring it back" to the previous version, before the fateful upgrade.
Yes. Apple does not acknowledge this issue and it cause.
Hi Steve;
Update for you. After reinstalling El Capitan from the earlier post I did NOT install the two updates that will show outstanding. which were:
Had some time so did the security update first - no issues with Spotlight triggering the Safari (error).
Then did the Safari 10.0.2 update and the first attempt at using Spotlight triggered the com.apple.Safari.History quit unexpectedly error.
So went back reinstalled El Capitan (35 minutes), reinstalled Security update 2016-003 and Safari 10.0.1 will just have to do until 10.0.3 comes out! Spotlight works just fine with just the security update. Forget the Safari and you should have your old machine and spotlight back (all other things being equal of course).
Apple if your listening; This is obviously a fault somewhere in the Safari update. It's reproducible on a fresh 10.11.6 install and a healthy machine. Good hunting!
Same issue, I am pretty bored !
I keep sending reports.
Actually, they are listening! The Engineering team is looking into the issue.
Big day when you and I get a call from a "fact finder" from Apple.
I gave him insight into what is likely to be the cause of the issue.
Sad when a clearly non-engineer like me, kinda gets it....
Thanks God, seems like this is fixed with today's safari update. Do you guys have this fixed as well? It was driving me nuts.
Yep ! Also solved for me !
Next one :-)
The latest update of Safari (10.0.3) seem to include a fix to this problem. No Spotlight crashes anymore!
