Question

ADC to VGA for Apple Display

Hi,

I was offered today a splendid Apple Display 15" ADC. The sad thing is that it is an ADC model. How can I connect it to a VGA graphic card? Is there any female ADC to male VGA adapter around? I guess that such an adapter should have a power supply. It does not matter if it has no USB plugs. Many thanks in advance.

iMac G4 1.25 Mhz - 17" flat, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You need a VGA to ADC adapter. You won't like the price.

The price is ridiculously high ($300). For that, I can buy a couple of 17" LCD screens!! Nothing else?

Apple flat panel displays are all digital only, but until recently, some Apple computers only had analog outputs for external displays. For those computers, it is a lot cheaper to get a non-Apple display with both VGA (for use with your current Mac) and DVI (for future computers) ports.

Similar problem as previous poster. I've got a blue G3 w/VGA port. I just got an ADC monitor after long travails I won't bore you with. I got a DVIator ( http://www.dviator.com), which may help previous poster?? Not sure - I don't understand all the variations in VGA ports & cards. I also got a VGA>DVI adaptor for a few bucks. So I'm going VGA through the adaptor to DVIator to ADC monitor. No luckee.

Just so you know I'm not an idiot, I originally got a 17" blue monitor but it was delivered broken The thing was so heavy and big I decided I wanted to get something else and was ready to return it and get some non-Mac VGA product... but the company that sold it to me would give me a replacement but not my $ back and could offer me nothing but the ADC. They told me it would work with my current scenario.

The DVIator requires the digital video signals from a DVI port. The VGA to DVI adapter just passes the analog video signals from the VGA connector. It does not convert to digital, so will not give any video on a digital display

If you get a new video card with DVI out, you can use the DVIator to run the ADC display. ATI Radeon® 9200 MAC Edition RoHS 128MB PCI

To sum up what everyone else is saying - there's a reason it's a good price - it's essentially what the Mac geek community call a "road apple".

A road apple something which really wasn't all that good at the time it was released, and is now close to useless. Don't go the cargo-cult route with Apple equipment - not everything they've made has been a good thing.
