AirPods pair correctly with iPhone 6s Plus (iOS 10.2) and randomly during the call they get disconnected. The BT connection gets lost and I have to connect them again manually.
Happens several times during long calls with no apparent pattern. The AirPods are fully charged.
The strange thing is that while listening to music, this problem doesn't show up, only on phone calls.

what I mean by "in its current state, the audio won't transfer to the watch unless we are on wifi. Still, once it does, it won't go back to the iPhone." is... if I am out in the wild, disconnected from WiFi, the audio NEVER transfers to the Apple Watch when the iPhone goes to the lock screen. (unless I put the iPhone in Airplane mode) However, as soon as I come into a known WiFi are... audio will start transferring to the Apple Watch... that is until I leave the WiFi are again.
almost like the iPhone and Watch need WiFi to handle the hand off appropriately.

I'm calling now to log my issues as well.
I've started doing the one Airpod thing and thought it fixed it but today it disconnected while I was on a call.
Frustrating.
I replaced them too and it didn't make any difference.
Thanks. I tried this morning and it help for me. 1 minute 22 seconds into a call they disconnected and re-connected.
I apologize . . . what I meant to say above was "I tried this morning and it did not help for me"
The only thing that works for me is using one Airpod for calls.
Still, switching between mac, iphone and watch has to be done mostly manually.

sounds like a different issue. my experience is too that the call stays connected on the iphone, just the airpods disconnect...
My calls stay connected to the person at the other end of the phone, but the AirPods disconnect, so it switches the audio over to the phone without warning.
Yes this is exactly what's happening to me. I get that disconnect "ding" and then most times about 10 seconds later I'll get the "reconnect" ding.
I agree, which is why we are all here. The way your post read to me was that they only worked as a pair.
I am also experiencing this same issue. Only on calls.
Using only one AirPod, I did not experience the constant popping and clicking on Skype as was my experience in the past.
Just a quick one.... how long do you Air Pods last on average between charge? I'm only getting around 10 hours - volume maybe?
