AirPods pair correctly with iPhone 6s Plus (iOS 10.2) and randomly during the call they get disconnected. The BT connection gets lost and I have to connect them again manually.
Happens several times during long calls with no apparent pattern. The AirPods are fully charged.
The strange thing is that while listening to music, this problem doesn't show up, only on phone calls.

The AirPods are starting to become a nuisance.
I have reopened a case with a senior advisor to further look into these issues. He said it would take about 3 days before I would have an answer. I expect a call from him Wednesday next week.
i have an iPhone 6S Plus running iOS 10.3 and I still drop phone call connection every 45-60 seconds without fail. Not what I would expect for $160

No I do not. I pair a fitbit blaze, my Audi, and a set of wireless plantronics headphones (at different times of course). I never drop music (I use google play music), just calls.
Finally working with iOS 10.3. iPhone 6s Plus. Haven't had any disconnects on a phone call with 2 AirPods in.
You still have this problem on iOS 10.3.1?
I think you may have a defective pair of AirPods. Most problems were fixed on the beta of 10.3 and continued on the 10.3 final release. I would advise you to contact apple for a replacement pair.

I have a 6S, and Apple Watch first gen among other things. Issue COMPLETELY fixed with iOs 10.3 (from the beta program to now). Not a single problem since the OS upgrade.
I can confirm that the issue it's fixed on iOS 10.3.1/3.2/3.5.1. I have an iPhone 6s+, Apple watch series 2 and the airpods.

I found a hack that makes it work. Just have someone call you and answer the call while using your AirPods. That somehow "unclogs" the problem and then you can place calls normally. Hope this works.
I experience exactly the same problems, however they seem diminished or even vanished when I'm away from other networks & computers (wifi and bluetooth).
