Have you had issues with the Touch Bar on MacBook Pro partially blacked out?
I had experienced an odd situation on my MBP 15" (Late 2016) a couple of days back when the Touch Bar started behaving erratically and blacked out on sections. When attempting to take screenshots, sections of the Touch Bar went missing or a black image was captured by macOS.
The issue persisted over a whole day even after the laptop was put on sleep and woken up a few hours later.
Here are screenshots of the first instance when I had noticed the issue:
Touching the touch bar on portions that I recalled from memory recovered the section but the issue did not completely go away and reappeared sometime later. I attempted to take a Touch Bar screenshot and got this instead:
I attempted to troubleshoot further and was unable to find a solution after an hour worth of looking through Console for a specific error.
The issue reappeared later in the day after I touched the Touch Bar after it had faded due to lack of activity. The issue this time was initially isolated to the control strip on the right hand corner where the volume controls are located but spread to the right hand side as well:
The screenshot of the Touch Bar indicated that the problem was isolated to the control strip alone:
I assumed it was an issue with the number of windows I had open on Safari but this didn't quite make sense as I've had the laptop for over a month and never experienced this issue till I upgraded to macOS 10.12.2.
Since this is meant to be a question, I'll answer with the solution provided by Apple Support as a comment so others who do spot a similar problem have a quick and easy method to resolve this issue.
