This was the response from Bose.
Hello John,
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your concern. I'd be more than happy to assist.
If you haven't done so please try it on another phone and check if you get the same issue. If you only get the issue on your iPhone 7, it's possible that the issue is with the Lightning adapter.
Some customers have been reporting to Bose that when using this adapter their headphone controls work intermittently – some reporting that their headphone controls stopped working after 30 minutes use. However, this issue also appears to be affecting customers using Apple’s own Lightning Ear Pods (in-ear headphones) that are included in the box with their iPhone 7.
I suggest that you contact Apple as this is not an issue with the Bose headphones (but rather with the iPhone software).
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
I have been troubleshooting this on another iPad and on my wife's phone 6+ . I don't get any static noise when connected to either one of those devices without the lightning adapter. I finally made it into the Apple store today. The technician hooked it up to his own phone and got static through the dongle. He swapped out the dongle and it still got static. They have no solution other than to report it and they acted like they've never heard of a problem with this although it's been reported on this board for months. It's interesting to me also that the Bose quiet comfort 20 was sold in the store and it will not work on any of their phones without static. Be aware if you want to use your Bose headphones before buying an iPhone.
