can't delete photos after import?

Using the photos app, I was trying to import my photos onto my Mac and have them automatically deleted for me. Instead, there was no "delete photos after import" option just the open photos for this device. Any suggestions?

Did you unlock the iPhone before you connected it to USB? If not, disconnect it, unlock it, then connect it again.

The "delete after import" button should appear below the toolbar.

If iCloud Photo Library has been enabled on your iPhone, however, the "Delete after import" button will not be available, because the photos are stored in iCloud and only mirrored on the iPhone.

unlocked iPhone, iCloud photo library-OFF, photos imported, but no "delete after import" button shown.

The button is not available after the import. You have to enable it before you start importing. Did you look for the button, before you imported the photos?

And the status of iCloud Photo Library is irrelevant on your Mac. But it must not be enabled on the iPhone. Have you checked, if the update to iOS 10.2 accidentally enabled iCloud Photo Library on the iPhone ?
