Delete Mailbox

I have a mailbox that I no longer use. When I right click the mailbox in the left pane window, there is an option to "Delete." When I click the "Delete" button and then I am asked if I am sure I want to delete. I click "yes" but the mailbox is not deleted.

User uploaded fileThis is about the application Mail in OSX Tiger, right?

If you want to delete a mailbox, you need to delete the mail accound.
- Open Mail
- Go to Preferences (from the "mail" menu on top off the screen)
- Go to the accounts selection (second tab)
- Select the account you want to delete
- Click on the "-" at the bottom off the screen
- Now the account will be deleted (and also to mailbox)

Hopefully this solved your problem. (see button above this message)

I tried to keep the original problem simple, i.e. tried not to be too wordy, so...
My e-mail changed from Comcast to Time Warner. When this happened I kept my original Mail Box with the "Comcast.net" mail server settings and renamed this Mail Box "Agnu-old." Then I set up a new mailbox "Agnu" with the Time Warner (Road Runner) server settings. This is my current/active account. Since the "Agnu-old" will not be getting any more mail via Comcast, this (Agnu-old) is the account I want to delete.

OK. So you appear to be calling ‘mailbox’ what is actually a mail account. A mail account has several mailboxes associated with it (Inbox, Sent, Drafts, etc). Deleting one of those mailboxes (which is what you appear to be doing) is not the same as deleting the entire mail account (which is what you appear to want to accomplish).

If what you really want to do is delete the mail account, follow the instructions provided by Anne (and mark her post as “Solved”, not mine). Note, however, that this will cause all your mail locally stored in that account’s mailboxes to be deleted as well, so move it to other mailboxes first if you want to keep it.
