I have the problem that I cannot activate Siri on the new AirPods. 98% of the time nothing happens. Only two times I was able to activate Siri by double touching a AirPod on its side.
Anyone with the same problem?
I tried both AirPods with the same result.

Do you have an Apple Watch. I found that Siri would work about 10% (variable) of the time. When I put my apple watch in Airplane mode, it would work 100% of the time.
When my Iwatch is Connected to my iPhone. Is when the siri fails to activate With the double tap. If I switch the plane mode On in my Iwatch, then It works perfectly. WHY????
This is the same issue I had. The reason it starts working is because your screen is now unlocked. Go to settings, Siri and be sure the Access when locked option is toggled on.

Apple picked mine up and sent them to a support site. They then arranged a new Pair of AirPods to be sent to me.
I also have had this problem. But this expensive device can be replaced with new AirPods that can actually be activated with 2 taps almost all the time? If not, is there a total refund from Apple?
I configured my AirPods the same as datta47. I use the double-tap to play/pause. Further, "Hey Siri" is almost never recognized.
I am finding that triple tapping works 100% of the time.
Not sure what that means but it seems to have solved the issue I was having where double tapping never worked.
