Bluetooth with car audio no longer working

I'm running 10.2 on my iPhone6 as are three others in my home. Since the last s/w upgrade none of the IPhones in my home will work with my car audio bluetooth feature (aftermarket BT45-HON). Phone calls work but no other audio plays through speakers. All other bluetooth devices in my home work working. One problem could be that the IPhone now recognizes my car's bluetooth connection as "headphones" rather than "bluetooth" by way of the indicator in the upper-right of the screen. Has anyone experienced this problem recently and what are the suggested workarounds? Thanks.

I'm using an iPhone 5s on iOS 10.2 with my 2012 Subaru Impreza. Everything worked great on iOS9. Ever since iOS10 Bluetooth has been completely flaky. Incoming phone calls are particularly bad - sometimes when I press the "answer call" button on the steering wheel, Bluetooth completely disconnects until I turn off both the car engine and the iPhone and restart both. Sometimes it even works! It is ILLEGAL in Illinois to talk on a phone in a car without hands-free, so this makes me break the law. I've followed all the "fixes" here on this forum and elsewhere, such as un-pairing and re-pairing. Upgrading to iOS 10.2 did not help. Some of these recommended fixes make the problem a little less severe, but then the problems come back in a couple days. This is a set of software bugs that should never have been unleashed on an unsuspecting public without adequate testing. Fix it!

I am considering going to an Apple store and demanding that they put iOS9 back on my iPhone so I can talk and drive legally in Illinois.
