Apple ID says birth date is invalid

i I have a new iPhone 7 and trying to set it up every time it says Apple ID needs to be verified it either says birth date incorrect or password incorrect. I have reset password numerous times now and nothing makes a difference. i can't verify by email as it says it couldn't connect to server, and no email is sent to other devices with same email address. Advice would be helpful as I'm about to throw the phone out the window!
