Set-Up Email App WITHOUT iCloud? Is it Possible?

I am one of those who cannot use iCloud on any other device than my iPhone. My work iMac's and iPads are off-limits for iCloud control. I know I can add an email address to email App without using iCloud, however, nothing works. It does not recognize my contacts or my calendar app unless I manually add and update each one. It refuses to add the apple contact account unless I log in to iCloud full-time. I use my cell phone with iCloud and I simply want to share my contacts and emails with my work iMac, BUT, it's All-Or-Nothing. WHY? I can't and won't allow iCloud to control my office computer. I refuse to use outlook or google for the same reasons and simply want to access my contacts and calendar while emailing from a NON-iCloud account. If Apple refuses us the ability to set-up the computer the way we want, Is there a third part mail app that will access my iCloud contacts and allow me email updating to my iCloud - WITHOUT taking over my computer? So very frustrated with the "submit-and-comform" attitude of apple and other companies, i.e.; google and outlook. GIVE US CONTROL OF OUR COMPUTER to set up the way we want it to work, not the way you THINK we want it.

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.2), iMac (Mid 2011)

LACAllen, in the spirit of fair play, I did every step you suggested. Here is what happened:

User uploaded file

As soon as I logged into iCloud a window popped up asking me if I wanted the application "gamed" to accept network connections - I declined.

User uploaded file

Just as you said I was given the option to log into everything or choose only the items I wanted to log in.

User uploaded file

User uploaded file

I chose only the "Mail" and "Contacts" option.

User uploaded file

I then went to my internet accounts - sure enough there is the first spyware "Game Center" Allowing Nearby Multiplayers without my permission - I disabled and deleted it.

User uploaded file

Next I accessed my iMessage account. It was logged in using my email and cell phone account - I signed out.

User uploaded file

Next I checked my FaceTime app - it too was logged in using my email and cell phone account - I signed out.

User uploaded file

Here is the most disturbing part of all. I looked at my key chain - not only was I logged into email and contacts. I was now STILL logged into Game Center as well as iMessage and FaceTime in FACT I was logged into 23 different iCloud com.apple accounts ALL with the same date stamp and time of when I selected my email and contacts on iCloud.

STOP WITH THE BOILERPLATE ANSWERS

Does anyone know how I can use my Mail app with contacts and iCloud email WITHOUT iCloud taking over my computer with SPYWARE!

The End.

If you would like to learn how iCloud works and learn something NEW based on facts - check out this feed: Re: Email App Set-Up Without Logging Into iCloud

I would be lying If I said I was not enjoying - proving you wrong. But, I know you have helped a lot of people and will continue to do so.

All the best. And don't forget to check out how iCloud and your Apple ID actually work. Re: Email App Set-Up Without Logging Into iCloud

You are welcome. You should be able to add the mail independent of being signed into iCloud in System Preferences/iCloud.

If you go to System Preferences/iCloud uncheck all syncing except for Contacts. You can also set that in System Preferences/Internet Accounts. That should stop a lot of other things from syncing.

The other accounts (Messages...) you can sign out of. You don't have to be signed in just because you are signed in in System Preferences/iCloud.

I wish this was true, in theory this IS how it should work, but it does not. As soon as I log into iCloud it takes over my system and starts saving all my settings and presetting all my applications and turning on everything to match my iPhone. All I want is my email and contacts. Its apple spyware and it hacks into my business computer and takes over. Sad that I have to be forced to "log out" of everything that apple logged into without my permission. Just because I allow it to do so on my new iPhone should not give Apple to right to do so on every device I own. So wish I could use the features that come with my device. Sad that apple has sold out to collect data and control our equipment for additional profit. Sorry to rant but beyond frustrating to be held under - technical duress - if I may. I can't be the only one who wants to use apple for business use and keep their private life separate. So unfortunate. Any chance you know of a program/app that allows me to access and update my iCloud without being forced to merge or alter the documents already on the device?

Dec 31, 2016 11:53 AM in response to LACAllen

While I do understand my statements may be a tad dramatic, they are, however, based on fact.

Q: where is the button to keep iCloud from logging my business computer into my gaining account that I would never use on my business computer?

Q: where is the button to keep icloud from logging my business computer into iChat - messages and FaceTime accounts?

Q: why must I be forced to log out of all of these items that are automatically logged into my business computer without my permission?

Q: how do I stop the settings from being changed on duplicate apps I use on my business computer, they keep changing to match my cell phone settings when all I want are my contacts and email?

FACT: as soon as iCloud logs into my business computer it then retains all my recent emails text messages phone numbers anything that I have done on my business computer using those apps are stored and retained in iCloud the moment I allow it to login. I know this for a fact because I notice my business data popping up on my cell phone shortly after I have tried to log in on my business computer. Granted there is no fraudulent actions when business data is removed as it is coming back to me the owner of the cloud, however, pretty scary that iCloud steals that information and tries to merge it with my personal data without my permission and, for me, unacceptable .

I know you are passionate about your experience -obviously you have been working with Apple and iCloud for some time now. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Once you log out of all this stuff your iCloud still has all these logged into your system. You can see it if you go back into your keychain it's still has you logged into the iChat accounts message accounts and gaming accounts - on the ready to turn back on at a moments notice. This is unexceptable and there's not a single company anywhere that would allow this to take place on the company computer - it would be labeled "spyware".

I am so very tired of the boilerplate answers I receive on chat rooms like this. if someone would like give me some "genuine" help, Is it possible to set up mail app with my email and contacts withot iCloud taking over my business computer. If not, I am looking for a 3rd party mail app and contacts app that will not snoop through my computer and log me into random accounts that are not acceptable for a business computer. I need it to also update my iCloud but NOT merge, alter, update or remove the data from my business computer, without my permission. That's all.

LACAllen: Do you think I am a complete idiot. You are sugar-coating this and trying to make me look like a daranged maniac.

1. I made a new user - never logged into ANYTHING

2. I added my iCloud with only contacts and iCloud email.

3. I was mysteriously logged into Game Center, FaceTime, Messages and 20 + more accounts without my permission.

Before these three simple steps I wiped my hard-drive and reinstalled my operating system.

Stop Ignoring the FACTS - The Emperor Has No Clothes, and I am tired of your smoke and mirrors playing me the FOOL.

Fair warning. If you use the the term SPYWARE again, I am not responding.

Your hysterical, nonsensical ranting here started out as about iCloud.

At no point until now, have you mentioned Game Center. Game Center is a product from Apple but completely independent of iCloud.

I can see a blocked Nickname for Game Center. How did that get there?

Game Center has its own log in, that IS NOT associated in any way with iCloud.

At some point, *YOU* signed in to Game Center. With an Apple ID, perhaps even the same Apple ID as iCloud.

That log in is not associated with iCloud at all. Neither are Messages and Facetime.

Those services are also completely independent of iCloud. *YOU* signed in to them at some point.

As you can tell, this community wants to, and does help.

If you wish to leak the story out, one bit at a time... be my guest. This behaviour plus the constant suggestion this is all spyware will get you nothing but ignored.

Dec 31, 2016 11:05 PM in response to LACAllen

Consider me warned. Seriously, thank you for taking the time to respond. I still don't understand where you're coming from.

[Your request for help] started out as about iCloud.

It still is about iCloud and wanting to use my @iCloud.com email and my contacts without logging into all the rest of the junk associated with my iCloud. No change.

LACAllen wrote: At no point until now, have you mentioned Game Center. Game Center is a product from Apple but completely independent of iCloud.

How can you say its completely independent of iCloud when it is logging me in when I log into iCloud. Yes when I first bought my iPhone 4 in 2011 I most likely logged into everything the iPhone requested when it was initialized. Am I now condemned for life? - I don't want the lousy "game play" account or any other account to be connected to iCloud. I have no idea how to stop it. Hence the request for someone to help me log into my iCloud email in Mail App without all the other garbage. I have several accounts I am logged into on my iPhone 7+. That does not mean I want to log into them on all my devises. "It logs me into game play, iMessage, FaceTime and countless other Non-Business accounts that I have on my phone and never want on my computer." I don't get it - THAT IS MY QUESTION.

LACAllen wrote: That log in is not associated with iCloud at all. Neither are Messages and Facetime.

How can you make this statement. HOW DO I LOG KEEP THEM FROM LOGGING IN?

So far I cannot find anyone in "this community" willing to give me an honest answer why I am forced to allow iCloud to log into every orifice of my computer the minute I use a basic feature that is associated with an Apple ID like the email app.

One last time - I beg you to give me a real answer.

Q: Is there a way to set-up the Apple email App without iCloud? Is it Possible? I would like to use the Apple Email App on my business computer and be able to use my @iCloud.com email address and be able to access and update my iCloud contacts that are on my iPhone 7+ without logging into everything associated with my personal iCloud ID?

LACAllen: if you are unable to give me a professional answer to a legitimate question without being condescending and downright rude - please don't bother. I am at my last breath. All I want is to use the features on my business computer without logging into all my personal accounts - it should not matter if I have logged into them before. I just want to use the features that came with my computer thats all. Good Grief I just want to set up and email account with contacts. WOW!

Then stop talking about Game center, FaceTime, Messages. Stop firing up Keychain and pointing out the number of times and ways iCloud is being used, by your choice. Stop leaking out your needs one at a time.

I showed you how to enable only Mail and Contacts, which was your request.

You don't like my answers, no problem. I'll stop providing any.

You stopped being hysterical and that's to your benefit.

I clearly am not able to help you with your mindset.

Best of luck with this and your other thread.

Dec 30, 2016 1:19 PM in response to Eric Root

Eric, thank you for asking. I would like to use my iCloud email or not - most importantly, I would like to access my contacts in the Mail App and update my iCloud contacts when I add new contacts. The only way I have been able to do this is if I sign my computer Into iCloud with full access to settings, other apps. It logs me into game play, iMessage, FaceTime and countless other Non-Business accounts that I have on my phone and never want on my computer. All I want is contacts and possibly my iCloud email - nothing further. I have been able to add my iCloud account to a third party contacts app that also updates iCloud for my phone - works great. I have yet to find a way to use the contacts in my email app unless I give iCloud full access to everything on my business computer. I am desperately looking for a third party app if Apple is not willing to limit the access of the mail App. This is the same reason why I do not use Outlook or Google on my business computer - total takeover.

Dec 30, 2016 9:48 PM in response to AkPaparazzi

If you genuinely want help, I suggest you drop the spyware angle and get a grip on reality. Apple does not take over anything.

"Held under technical duress"??? Please.

When you first sign in to iCloud, you can control precisely which of it's services you want synced.

When you sign in, make sure the 2 checkboxes are unchecked. Click NEXT.

User uploaded file

You will then get to the settings options for the other iCloud services with NONE pre-selected, allowing you the full control you don't feel you have. Enable only Contacts & Mail if that's what you wish.

No other iCloud service will be activated.

All I want is my email and contacts.

This sounds like what you want.
