AirPods causing head pressure?

I got my AirPods a few weeks ago, right as they came out, and since the first time I put them on I've noticed that I start getting pressure headaches after a few minutes of use. I find this odd, as I've never had issues with the EarPods and I've used those ever since they came out. I also have another pair of Bluetooth headphones that I use with my Playstation, and I've never had an issue with those either. I've tried everything I can think of, including not putting them all the way in and just letting them kinda sit outside my ear canal.

The headaches aren't intense, but the slow building pressure is not exactly fun deal with. Has anyone else run into this issue? Better yet, has anyone else found a solution to this issue? I love these things, but they are getting hard to wear!

I have the same issue. Neve had this bad experience with Beats wireless. That's frustrating. I strongly believe it doesn't have nothing to do with the sound pressure. This is about radiations in my opinion. 😟

What difference does the power make in a buying decision? It is irrelevant, as Bluetooth communicates by non-ionizing radio frequencies, which have been proven time and time again to be no threat to health. Go to Pub Med and you can research it yourself.

While I don't doubt that some users have some symptoms, I am absolutely certain that they have nothing to do with Bluetooth at any power level.

I hope that's not the reason as i want ti buy them but i'm still investigating about that matter. Let's hope they're safe to use and radiation is nothing to worry about. Have a great day!

You do understand that you're exposed to radiation all the time, right? Sunlight is "radiation". Microwaves are what is called non-ionizing radiation. They do not cause "radiation sickness".

Now, sunlight, that really can be dangerous.

I suspect my headache from the AirPods to come from the magnets in them. I have some old mercury fillings in my cheek teeth, which I suspect is reacting with the magnets in the AirPods.

Huh? The only metal that reacts with magnets is ferrous metal (i.e. iron containing).

And don't let anyone scam you into having all the metal fillings in your teeth replaced. It's expensive, damaging to your teeth and can introduce bacteria into your blood stream (any dental work can) unnecessarily. Those fillings are not doing anything bad to you.

Amy, I totally agree with you. I started using air pods since August 2017. I enjoy the experience completely. But later started feeling some headaches only while using it. I am someone who never gets headache so easily. In fact, for last two weeks, I started testing this out. The pattern has been very consistent. I get headache only when I listen to air pods. While I write this, I got my headache a while ago as I used air pods for one hour now and took them off. And that's why googled for the first time to see if I am not alone. And found all interesting posts around web regarding this.

Seriously, I feel this has to be addressed by Apple. I see some counter comments here from some people. I really pity them. They write as if we hate Apple. Come on. I use almost all Apple devices at home. And never complained about them for years. And this is my first comment in Apple community. I made this comment because I really feel the AirPods require proper testing on health hazards.

Trust People.

You're making some very odd assumptions about people disagreeing with you. I don't care whether you like Apple, hate Apple or really prefer pears. What I do care about is people perpetuating bad science. I don't think anyone here necessarily hates science. I think they just lack a decent grounding in the fundamentals. It's unfortunate and probably not the fault of the people here. However, allowing bad sciences to stand unchallenged is part of the reason that many people don't understand it.

Yes, Airpods have been tested. No, they are not a health hazard. They are not emitting dangerous rays.

Could AirPods make your ears hurt? Sure. Ears are as individual as fingerprints. No headset is going to work for everyone. I can't use the EarPods that come packaged with iPhones as they make my ears hurt. Are they a health hazard? Only in the same sense that shoes that don't fit are bad for the person wearing them.

Could AirPodgive you headaches? Possibly but not for the reasons you think. Turing the volume up too loud can do it. Holding your head at a funny angle because you're afraid of having them fall out and get lost. And, for some people, the fact that the AirPod is making their ears hurt could give them a headache. But that doesn't mean AirPods are a health hazard. It means some people shouldn't use them.

If you're getting headaches of a kind you've never had before, go see the doctor. It's very often a sign of something serious.

I have been using iPhone since iPhone 5. And EarPods since then until I bought AirPods. I am not a product expert. Neither technology expert. I don't know if this is even happening because of Bluetooth radiation. Because I bought two pairs of AirPods last April for my own brother and a close colleague. They are still using it. Never heard any complaints from them. But unfortunately, the headache I get is in sync with AirPods usage. I don't get headache again until I put them back. I am not saying these are not tested. All I am worried is, it is causing issues for some people as we can see on web. I am one among many who keeps reading things around web and never speak up. But today I decided to speak because what I experienced is really true and I am afraid if these pair of AirPods will cause health issues for users which we really don't know.

Don't tell me the testings are done and I have to blindly believe that AirPods are not causing headache. This is the point I can't agree at all. I love to use new technology gadgets. Despite having this issue, I am still trying my best to use the AirPods.

What I wrote is not to argue. It is purely and truly what I experienced and want to share that.

Yes, you did. You said they need to be tested, which implies that they were not tested.

I don't know if this is even happening because of Bluetooth radiation.

Bluetooth is not radiation, it is radio waves, but of a very low power, much less than the phone you hold up to your ear to take phone calls.

I am afraid if these pair of AirPods will cause health issues for users which we really don't know.

If you are experiencing issues when using the AirPods, then I suggest very strongly that you discontinue their use. Only you have the ability to determine where your problem is by seeing a physician. If you are being truthful that continued use is causing your discomfort, your only hurting yourself. Put them away and see a doctor. Just because you and some others are experiencing a problem does not mean the devices were not tested. There are people that are sensitive to things despite testing. These are not the norm however. Your general statements about testing and Apple are how these stories continue. Get a definitive answer before making assumptions. Even your own experience showed that out of 3 people using the devices, two experienced no problems whatsoever.

Me too, thank you for your post here! I was thinking for a long time to get this AirPod. It’s look like a great product!

I used the first 5 mins I felt my left side of ear and head hurt! I don’t realise that was problem of the product. I used for almost 2 weeks, every time I use felt my ear hurt. At the end, I had serious headache which made me can’t sleep.

Luckily I read all the comments here, I decided to return the product at the 14th day of purchase. But I was told that in Hong Kong, Apple Store already not provide any refunds arrangement, after I told them my case, they decided to refund for me.

But they told me NO CUSTOMER CLAIMS this issue in Hong Kong and the manager here never heard about this!!!!!!!! I told them I am not only one got this headache, and tell them some comments here. Now I feel really sad and disappointed about Apple. This is my first time return their product, it makes me think should I get the other item next time, especially in their Hong Kong store. .

I got my EarPods a week ago, i used them on sunday for the first time to go weightlifting. everything was good, i was trying to surpass my PR in bench press, after that while doing cable extension an un incredible pain came to my head, the occipital part. It has repeated through the days, so i went lifting with my AirPods today, pain came back. so i went home changed my headphones for bose sport (...) (my regular working out headphones). No pain was acquired i ws able to workout. Not as usual because of the pain produced before. I will probably keep my AirPods, i just won't recommend them for lifting weights. Running seems to be ok!

Same here, been wearing them for hours mostly in my right ear. Then I started having headaches and pressure on the right side behind the ear and neck finally made a dentist appointment thought it might be a bad tooth but coincidentally didn’t use the air pods today most of the day and felt fine but when I put one in my left ear boom, got a headache on the left and that’s when I realized it’s the air pods. Strange thing is why it only started bothering me recently when I’ve had them about a year?

I purchased these airpods the day they came out. I always thought everytime I get a headache take these things out of your ear and somethings going on with me. Always when I take them out of my ears I feel no more unbearable headaches. Today it got so bad that I had to leave from work this is what made me read up about this to see if I was the only one. Clearly i’m not. These airpods are very handy for my work however, the painful dreadful headaches are unbearable I will be looking to see an attorny about this issue. Just like they head away the secret about slowing those phones down from us, something has got to be up with these airpods that their not telling us. I WILL get to the bottum of this.

Thank you
