Unable to delete files on preview

Hello.

I'm unable to delete some images (jpgs) on aplication preview. I have selected more than one and open it on preview. If I try to delete one or more files (jpgs) on the preview, when I press the command + delete buttons I got the message: You don't have the permission to move the file "XXXXXX"to the trash. The problem is if I try to delete the same file on finder, I can delete it. Could someone help me? Thanks!

Thanks cdhw, but I deleted some files in preview in the past, with command + delete shortcut.

You can try:

Open a few photos simultaneosly with Preview.

From the thumbnails sidebar, select the image (s) you don't want.

Use the "move to trash" keyboard shortcut, just like in the finder.

Here I got the message: You don't have the permission to move the file "XXXXXX"to the trash.

The problem is if I try to delete the same file on finder, I can delete it. And if I try the same way in another macbook, it works.

Could someone help me? Thanks!

I understand, very mysterious. The

Preview > Edit > Move Selected Image to Trash

shortcut does work for me.

Select one of the problematic images in FInder and then use

Finder > File > Get Info

to display the Sharing and Permissions. They should look like this:

Also check

System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts

to make sure you haven't redefined the shortcut for Preview.

You appear to have two files in the Preview thumbnail pane on the left side of the window. Try only opening one file in Preview - my Sierra 10.12.2 system has the "Move to Trash" item grayed out and you cannot click it to move the one (and only file) to the trash. So to me it seems to be a subtle, but inconsistent, behavior of Preview (and has been this way for quite a while - no idea how long - perhaps forever?). I'm inserting a screen-shot of the grayed out Move to Trash menu but it doesn't show up well on this message - how did you get the color choices on your screenshot that shows much better? I tried inverting the screen in the Accessibility System Preferences and it looks much better on the screen, but the image file that's saved is no different when I post here (appears that the inversion is not saved when screen shots are taken?). Thanks...

Command+Delete is a command in Preview (see the Edit menu), that appears to only be relevant when you try to open multiple files at a time. In other words, from one Preview window you have several files open (multiple entries in the Thumbnail preview pane on the left of the window). Very weird but here is a discussion about exactly this issue at

preview "move to trash" grayed out

Good luck...
