Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

On touchscreen computers, icloud.com will not work with mouse or trackpad, have to use touchscreen.

I have an Acer R11 Chromebook, which has a touchscreen. Whenever I access iCloud.com on it and go into the photos section, I am forced to use the touchscreen to navigate because using the mouse does not work, the whole webpage is unresponsive to cursors.

This is also unfortunately the case with Windows computers trying to access iCloud Photos via iCloud.com, not just ChromeOS.

Perhaps the website recognises the touchscreen and doesn't expect having mouse input as well? Either way, it certainly hinders use of the site with a touchscreen computer.

The iPhoto site does in fact care what input device you use, and it doesn't work.

There is no iPhoto site, so assuming you mean iCloud.com, does your Chromebook meet the requirements to use icloud.com?

Your answer is essentially no, as it does not appear iCloud.com supports the Chrome OS. So it's about an OS issue, not a touchpad issue. The Chrome Browser is listed, but only from a Mac or Windows (desktop mode).

The Chrome OS is not fully supported in a number of scenarios.

Actually the iPhoto site is here, FYI.

Not to pick nits, but your link is for icloud.com and the app within it is labelled Photos. It is not called iPhoto. iPhoto is an obsolete iOS/OSX app and was never accessible via iCloud.com.

And let me offer this perspective... if an OS is not explicitly listed as supported for iCloud. com, I would assume it is not supported at all and the behaviour you see is what you get. Best effort.

The requirements list I gave does not show the Chrome OS, only the Chrome browser. I would not believe the same level of Chrome browser within the Chrome OS is the "same" at all.

I'll bet that the various flavours of Linux have the same experience. Not all iCloud features and functions work as desired.

You are all justified in being disappointed that your hardware and software is not fully or satisfactorily supported by Apple.

I want to mention, LACAllen, that your responses come off as rather harsh and in fact, somewhat rude. You volunteers here on official support forums are supposed to be helpful and try their best to fix the issue, even if it's an issue with devices being unsupported.

ok. I believe I did that. You're entitled to not like my form.

Once again, I know that you aren't an Apple employee, but Chromebooks are outselling Macs and iOS, those not combined, because of their lightweight OS and online capabilities

Not really in scope for this community. Not sure how that is close to being relevant to your issue.

I provided you a link to voice your concerns to the only place that can help. We are not permitted to debate policy or Apple's choices and decisions here.

not suggest iCloud to anyone, even those using mainly Apple devices, because of it's overpriced storage, slow loading, and horrid cross-platform support.

Doesn't sound like constructive criticism to me at all.

No Chrome OS support = "horrid"?

Ok.

Oh boy I have a lot to say about this now. "Oh you can't use google.com to search because hmm iOS 10.2 *****" is similar to what you are saying

I turn off the touchscreen on the Chromebook and reload the page and it works perfectly with the default trackpad or external mouse. I know for a fact that I am not isolated with this issue because I have seen it be the case on more than just my devices.

I am willing to try and troubleshoot with you guys or an Apple employee to figure out what the problem is. But Google sent me to you guys because they say it's a website issue.

No. It is not at all similar to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that Apple does not make Windows, or the OS on your Chromebook. The web site can't tell and doesn't care what input device you use.

Google is basically blowing you off by blaming it on the web-site. It is not a problem with the web site.

I understand that you are not an Apple employee, but you are pretty much a representative of the company, and should learn to be more courteous. I do the same for the official Google Chromebook support forums, people respect you more if you at least do your best, rather than just saying "no, go away now".

Back on the topic at hand.

Once again, I know that you aren't an Apple employee, but Chromebooks are outselling Macs and iOS, those not combined, because of their lightweight OS and online capabilities. It's unfortunate that Apple's competitor to Google Drive and Google Photos is unsupported by Linux and Linux-based OSs other than MacOSX, because that's a shame and a failure to please many customers. I used to be an Apple fanatic, now not so much, because lack of support of fairly common OSs with iCloud and more. I will not suggest iCloud to anyone, even those using mainly Apple devices, because of it's overpriced storage, slow loading, and horrid cross-platform support.

It's a good thing that I only use it to transfer notes from my iPod 4 with iOS 6 to my Chromebook, otherwise I would be in not a good place.

Actually the Chrome browser is the same on ChromeOS as on Mac and Windows. The difference is some ChromeOS devices have a touch screen, which screws up the web site, as we reported above.

You are nitpicking 😉

The OP reported that Windows touch screen devices don't work either. It's a touch screen issue, not an OS issue, as we said above. Here's the stack trace from the report generated by Apple's app failure diagnostic (which I sent to Apple). Note the references to "pointerHitTest", "pointerUp", and "touchend":

This isn't a solution, but it's a workaround:

In Chrome, go to:

chrome://flags/

Find the setting called "Touch Events API", and set it to disabled. Then press the restart/relaunch button at the bottom of the page.

This will disable the touch screen API for websites entirely. This may or may not be an issue for you, depending on which websites you visit. However, the iCloud website should start working again properly.

An alternative option is just to change the user agent. I used "User Agent Switcher For Chrome". Setting the user agent to Firefox works fine, but grabbing the user agent for Edge and adding it manually to the extension gives you full functionality with no error messages about unsupported browsers. Setting up a permanent rule for the icloud.com (via the extension options) is probably the easiest approach.

On touchscreen computers, icloud.com will not work with mouse or trackpad, have to use touchscreen.
