Cleaning your Apple products - Apple Support

Apple recommends nothing more than a clean microfiber cloth and a slight amount of water. Any solvent or cleaner solution has the potential to damage the oleophobic coating on the glass screen, which sounds like what has happened on your device. Anything with ammonia, bleach or detergent in it may damage the coatings on the display.

I use a small amount of window cleaner on kitchen roll

And window clearer contains ammonia. Apple specifically recommends against it.

Handle your iPad with care to maintain its appearance. If you're concerned about scratching or abrasion, you can use one of the many cases sold separately. To clean iPad, unplug all cables and turn off iPad (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button, and then slide the onscreen slider). Use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings. Don't use window cleaners, household cleaners, compressed air, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean iPad. iPad has an oleophobic coating on the screen; simply wipe iPad's screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove oil left by your hands. The ability of this coating to repel oil will diminish over time with normal usage, and rubbing the screen with an abrasive material will further diminish its effect and might scratch your screen.

IF I replace the I pad 9.7 inch screen will there be any downsides in doing so. Will it be any different?

thanks all

If, for some reason, it's determined that the screen needs replacing, you should only have it done by Apple. If you have an unauthorized party open your iPad, you will forfeit any remaining warranty and any rights to out-of-warranty service from Apple. Also, as the iPad Pro 9.7 is a TouchID capable device, if the screen repair is not done correctly, TouchID might be permanently disabled. Further, because Apple does not sell parts, any unauthorized repair service is using either used or counterfeit parts.
