iPad air does not recognize i usb storer

After getting increasingly frustrated with the nonsense required to move documents etc from my PC to my new iPad (WHY did I even bother?), I recently bought what seemed like a no-nonsense solution . . . emphasis on "seemed"!

Although the device worked perfectly with my PC and I was easily able to move documents onto it's FAT-32 storage, accessing them on my iPad has proved impossible so far.

On first plugging in the device, I was prompted to download an app. Being a suspicious sort, I declined until I was able to check it out, and it seemed to be the genuine app for the device. I then downloaded it and installed it and can access the app, but it cannot see the device in the lightning port. I have tried rebooting the iPad (running OS-x V 10.2) but get no notifications whatsoever when plugging in the device (nor does the power light on the device illuminate)

What can I do to "help" the iPad "see" the device? Why does it have to be so ****** complicated just to use external storage?

Frustrated

There are a lot of fly by night outfits out there. You must have found one. A direct connection could be blocked by apple in the future. It's best to go with a combination wife - usb device.

Some examples:

Airstash
"Easily access, transfer, and stream your files from AirStash® – the pocketable wireless flash drive for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch! This app requires an AirStash device in order to work. View, import & export photos, wirelessly stream videos, music & podcasts, and view documents stored on your AirStash. AirStash+ is an enhanced alternative to the built-in web interface adding features only possible with a native app."

Thanks, but those are not solutions, they are alternatives, all of which use cloud storage, which is exactly what I am trying to avoid!

All I want to do is use my supposedly-compatible flash storage with my iPad, again, why does it have to be so difficult? I was always reluctant to try i devices and now I remember why - even the simplest of things are made ridiculously difficult unless you pay a premium for i-branded accessories.

Your comment is about as helpful as it is accurate. Despite the fact that you don't identify what you mean by "it", the hardware in question was specifically designed for the device in question, so you are patently incorrect.

I have found the solution, which was simply a different app, namely "iSmart Access". That this community could not answer such a simple question is almost as much of a disappointment as the fact that I had to ask it in the first place.

It sounds like the solution was from the company that produced the hardware. You asked something from this community of volunteers who have a bit of familiarity with the products from one company. Speaking for everyone here, we are very happy that you were able to find a solution where the solution originates.

I don't know the specificies any more than you, but there are devices that meet the requirements.

In general, this devices provide a usb connection to computer and a wifi connections to an ipad with an app to access the data.
