Vexing Problem - Hidden Video File - I can play it - I can't delete it

I've got a strange problem. A video I made in September of 2016 and have since deleted (months ago) suddenly showed itself in the import window of FCPX.

The deleted video can be played and shows up under "Cameras" as "CANON". (see screen capture) If you ask me, that's just the SD card that I've inserted into the side of my MacBook Pro. The strange thing is that I've deleted everything on my SD card many times over since September of 2016.

What is more strange was that I just now deleted the other video shown in this import window. It plays.

So, obviously these videos were put somewhere. But where?

I want to delete them - but simply don't know where they are.

Is there any way you could, say, right-click on the file (in the import window) and select "get info" to show the current location?

Used following Terminal command - it revealed the file exists on network connection - but renaming file and directory did not make video go away from import window

find . -type f -iname "*pm02*"

Was able to locate "Reveal in Finder" command by right-clicking "CANON" toward top left of import window. Once again said video file nowhere to be seen - yet plays in the import window.

I'll make a YouTube video documenting how incredibly asinine this is

Found the problem.

I'll quickly recap the test I was doing before stating what fixed it. I had filled the 64GB SD card with random pictures, then deleted all those pictures using Finder. The idea was that, by copying all that data and deleting, I could be sure that that the unwanted video would be written over and deleted. After filling up the SD card and deleting every file using Finder the SD card appeared empty - no files could be seen in Finder or in my video camera - however, despite this, the SD card was almost completely full - having only a few MB left. My CANON video camera could only record a few seconds before the SD card was 100% full.

I continued on with my original test.

Since I had a very short video I figured I'd continue - so I placed the SD card into the slot so that the Import window in FCPX would be triggered. I was very curious to see what would now be reported in the Import window. By this point in time I knew something was amiss with the SD card - and I was expecting the Import window to see scads of files that should be deleted. That never happened. After popping the SD card into the slot of my MacBook I got the beachball in FCPX (which was normal), however instead of seeing a beach ball for 20 seconds or so - the beach ball remained for the next 8 to 10 hours before I finally forced FCPX to quit - triggering a crash report to be sent to Apple.

The next thing I did was format the corrupt SD card using my CANON video camera.

This fixed the problem.

I can pop the SD card into my computer and I only see the file I expect to see show itself in the Import window of FCPX.

In the end - it wasn't a FCPX problem.

Although, it was odd that FCPX was the only program I encountered that was able to see a corrupt video and play it - Finder couldn't see this, Terminal couldn't see this and my Canon video camera could not see this file - just FCPX.

New operating procedure - format (or initialize) the SD card regularly.

Well, that was a serious pain - but at least I have a sense of knowing what really happened and how to fix it.

Yeah, still don't know what you mean. But, the question is this: I desire to delete a video, therefore I need to know the LOCATION of that video. I'm feeling pretty negative about this at the moment - since, I have a video that I can play on my computer, but can't delete for lack of extremely simple information: location of said video.

From the import dialog, you can right click on the video and Reveal in Finder. Once in the Finder, you can right click on the "folder" label at the top center and the path will pop down. If you have Show Path Bar selected in the Finder's View menu, you can read the path at the bottom of the finder window.

Then, there's always Terminal. It will find anything.

I'm filling up the supposedly empty SD card with random pictures from my SSD. Then, I'll erase everything, record a short video and insert into the SD slot on my MacBook (to invoke the import window). If the import window does not show the unwanted video then it's most likely that the unwanted video was on the card - and invisible.

If that's really true then it's just plain scary.
