Menubar "Hide (app name)" does not work for some apps

The "Hide (app name)" in the menubar and the keyboard Cmnd-H and the app popup menu "Hide" in the Dock does not work in Stickies, TextEdit and some other apps. I cannot hide some apps in any manner.

Firefox, Preview, Skype, Pages (yes Hide is ok for Pages) , iTunes -- all the Hide options work.

These apps cannot be hidden in any manner: Mac OS DIctionary, Stickies, TextEdit, iNotePad, MacJournal.

These apps all are writing apps or have fields for entering data. Only Pages can be hidden.
