How can I re-edit a finalized movie in iMovie?

I made and finalized a 5 minute video last year, and want to update it. I need to take out a short clip and remove an annotation. I tried re-importing it as an mp4 (from youtube, the only place I could find it) and creating a new project, but it won't let me edit anything.

Is it possible? What am I doing wrong? TIA

Hi,

Unless you deleted the old project itself, you can always go back to the project, make changes, and re-share it. You can do this as many times as you want. At least, you can in iMovie 10. If you have deleted the old project, perhaps you can restore it on Time Machine or other backup.

Otherwise, you will need to import the Mp4 movie into a new project as you have done. It will then be one long clip that you can edit to a limited extent like any other clip. Even though editing is limited, because your previous edits are now embedded in the clip, you still can split out the portion that you don't like and perhaps add a short cross-dissolve if the transition between the splits is too abrupt.

Hope this helps.
