Mail message delete problem

On Sierra when I give a keyboard shortcut command to delete a message from the inbox its line gets greyed out but it does not delete. Alternatively, if I hit the keyboard delete key, which is the default key for the delete command, I get the message

'The message "test" could not be moved to the mailbox "Exchange" The specified object was not found in the store., The process failed to get the correct properties.'

If I quit and restart mail the offending message is gone from the Inbox into the trash.

I went into my ~/library folder and deleted com.apple.mail.plist and com.apple.mail-shared.plist. After a restart neither of these files was recreated by the Mail app and the behavior is the same.

Any suggestions how to fix things?

Thanks,

In my original post I explained how I went into my ~/library/preferences folder and deleted com.apple.mail.plist and com.apple.mail-shared.plist. After a restart neither of these files was recreated by the Mail app and the behavior of the mail app was the same.

My problem has now resolved itself. I don't remember when it resolved but it is fine now. I therefore looked in ~/library/preferences folder and, although com.apple.mail.plist has not reappeared, the file com.apple.mail-shared.plist has been re-created by the Mail app.

I therefore suggest that you delete the files com.apple.mail.plist and com.apple.mail-shared.plist and then do a few restarts. You might even restart into safe mode by holding down the shift key. I have found that doing this, followed by a normal restart, often fixes problems.

Good luck.
