View your iPhone notifications history

I have a similar problem, but the notification has already left the notification centre. I have no idea who it was from, but I cannot find the message.

Is there a way to see the history in the notification centre to see who the message was from?

SAME !!! Once you took a glance at notifications they just vanish from lock screen. how can i see older ones or see them again ?

Did you ever find out how to retrieve old notifications? Every time I try to do one of these suggested tips such as roll the screen down on a locked screen, all I get is a big fat NO NOTIFICATIONS. I do not have my phone set to wipeout the history either in my settings. I appreciate any tips you can give if you successfully retrieved your deleted notifications. Thanks!

I’m going to try to restate the OP question in my own words.

It’s all about wanting to view and act upon notifications which have already been cleared, either by accident or whatnot.

In my case, I tapped on a notification from the Email app, and then the app for some reason failed to actually open that particular mail. Searching in the app has not found the mail.

So to me, if I could get that notification back, even though I cleared it, this may be a path to get to read that email.

There are other situations when I would have liked to see old notifications that were already cleared.

So that is the OP question as I understand it. None of the snarky answers (lookin’ at you, “bit bucket”) seem to have grasped the actual question.

The answer is in the first response to the original post. There is no notification history. None. Period. End of discussion.

I realize that is not the answer that people want to hear, but it is a correct answer.

If if you think it should be different let Apple know: https://Apple.com/feedback. Telling other users in this user-to-user forum where Apple does not participate is useless and annoying.

But then why in the Notifications settings is there a toggle for “Show in History,” if no history? Or where is this history?

Maybe Apple’s definition of history is different than I understand it to be.

You can access Notification Center at any time on your iPhone or iPad by simply swiping down from the top of the screen.

1. Place your finger over the top of the screen.
2. Pull your finger down over the screen
3. The above worked for me. First I tried going through settings and notifications, no dice. But swiping down while I was on the home screen brought back a notification that had flown by in a nanosecond. I then went into Settings, clicked on the app that had sent the notification, clicked on notifications and changed "temporary" to "permanent" so next time the message will stay until I close it. You have to go through Settings, not through the app itself. Hope this helps.

If you have the latest update, go to your lock screen (showing the clock and date), but do not unlock your phone. Touch your locked screen, hold, and scroll up. If you have notifications turned on, the history should appear.

THIS! This is what I've been looking for since December! It's April.

It is a setting in Notifications that you can turn on or off. I gave the complete path above. Turning that setting on means that the notification will remain in Notifications until you act on it. Once you've done that, it's gone.

I also followed the path you posted but on my iphone, with the latest OS version installed, there is no reference to history. There is an area that refers to previewing notices but no mention of a history.
