If those photos were taken with the phone and part of the camera roll, restore from the latest backup. The iTunes backup also contain photos taken with the phone.
We can't tell you why. We are not psychic. Why do you have to "constantly be backing up"? Because it's a computer. Just like any computer, you need to back up your data. There are two kinds of people in the world, those who have lost data because they didn't back up, and those who will.
I think the question was; why are photos randomly deleted from our phone storage? I am backing up to play it safe but as a teacher I often keep photos on my phone for reference for attendance, and various other reasons. The photos do reappear once I do a hard reset, sometimes. It's a glitch in the system and it should be fixed.
I backed it up before I went away. Ten days later and I've lost all my holiday photos. I don't back up to the cloud as the storage isn't big enough, and it once deleted some photos. If they're still showing under storage, why can't I see them or access them through my computer? It obviously hasn't deleted them just not showing them. Oh, sorry, you're not psychic, and evidently don't know how to help. Backing up constantly as you suggest is not practicable.
We want to know WHY our photos are randomly disappearing. WHY do we have to constantly be backing up and why can't Apple fix this issue among many others with all of these security updates?
Why did 6000 photos just disappear from my phone?
