used disk utility to wipe old hard drive but cant get it to reload sierra- says it needs to verify the comuter

After using disk utility to erode old iMac hard drive, I am trying to reinstall Sierra but it won't reinstall. Whien I click on the reinstall icon it says it need to verify the computer but nothing goes any further... I must have missed a step but what do I do now?
