Heart Rate Sensors Not Working

My heart rate app works in the background but when you click on it to take your heart rate it just spins and eventually says "try again". I've tried rebooting even installed a different app and the sensors aren't working on that either. Any suggestions ? Thanks

Hi

The following steps may help:

Check that Wrist Detection is turned on and that, if passcode is enabled, you are unlocking your watch after placing it on your wrist

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection - turn on.

On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that both Fitness Tracking and Health are enabled.

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Privacy > Motion & Fitness - check that Fitness Tracking and Heart Rate are enabled.

Check that you are wearing your watch sufficiently snugly on the top of your wrist:

If it is worn too loosely, the accuracy of heart rate readings may be affected and your watch may believe that it has been removed from your wrist.

Note that Wrist Detection and the accuracy of heart rate readings can be affected by temporary or permanent skin changes, such as by some wrist tattoos.

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Restart both your iPhone and your watch:

Close the Watch app, Health app and Activity app (if open) on your iPhone:
- Double-click the Home button, then swipe up on each app preview to close it.
Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first:
- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
- Restart your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Unpair and re-pair your watch:

The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app. Choose to Restore from Backup during set up. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to having your watch checked and, if recommended, serviced / replaced (whether under warranty, if eligible, or via chargeable repair service):
