Where is the list of known adware/malware that effects Macs?

There used to be a KB or HT article that had known malware/adware for macs and their directories so that you could navigate to them and delete. I know AdwareMedic aka Malwarebytes exists. Since Malwarebytes took over I don't want to use that software anymore. I used it when Thomas Reed was still writing the scripts. anyway, is there such a listing either by apple or some third party? Many thanks!

Given one type in a current state, do all of the variants in that current state appear the same

Yes, but that's sort of a simplified definition of a variant. When the files change in some non-superficial way, that's a different variant of the same malware or adware.

You seem to be conflating my generic English terms ("variant") for specific meaning in the malware vernacular.

Restating, given the current incarnation of Genieo, does every implementation have a similar file structure with only the naming changed, or are there multiple file structures and base code?

Is that common to all?

Well, every piece of malware or adware has at least one variant. You can describe the behaviors of all the files for one particular variant, but those descriptions aren't good - or are, at best, only partially good - for any others.

As to how common this is, it varies. Some malware and adware has only ever appeared as one single variant, and never got updated at all. Others have been getting updates multiple times per year for a number of years.
