Small caps won't work in table titles

I am trying to use the "small cap" feature in the titles of tables, but every time they convert to small caps, they automatically go back to the original font. I'm trying to use pm as a small cap (PM) and it reverts back to pm. Is there a reason that the "small cap" feature doesn't work in table titles?

Ok. Watched your video, and duplicated that issue here. It appears that Pages is reapplying some default Table Name style to its text after you click away from it. I found no fix for this. However...

I deselected Table Name in the Table tab. Then merged the cells in the top row of the table, and entered the prior Table Name text, with the pm set to small caps. While still in this new title cell, I selected the Cell tab, and in the Border box, I sequentially selected the icon for left, top, and right borders — each of which I changed the solid line selector to its No Border choice. This left the rest of the table intact.

There is always some compromise with Pages v5 and v6, and this uncooperative Table Name is just another example.

Pages v6.0.5. macOS Sierra 10.12.2. Helvetica Bold 11pt for the table title.

I keyed in a mixed case table title ending in pm. I then selected the gear icon in the Font section that accesses the Advanced Options menu, and changed Capitalization from None to small caps. The result is what you see above.

The Helvetica font that ships with Sierra does not have a Letter Case Typography category, and I believe that enabling Smal Caps in the above Advanced Options menu implements faux small caps. When I change the font to Hoefler Text Black, and in addition to the Advanced Options menu, I enable Small Caps in this font's Typography : Letter Case options, you can see the difference below. If one further enables the Typography Numeral Style of this font to Old Style, then the descender on the 3 retracts. One must display the Fonts panel, and select Typography from its gear menu.

Sorry. This is the problem of the "Contextual" Sidebar, the titles of features rotate depending on what is selected and yours was not showing in my document until I made the Title visible.

This is not a feature I have used before. Interesting, but I can't reproduce your problem.

How exactly are you setting the Small Caps? I have done it from the top menu and the Sidebar. Both work.

Are you doing this using a Character Style or Paragraph Style?

Do you have a Date Format set on the cell, because I tried that as well.

I've viewed your video and going on your verbal description it seems you are doing everything right.

I however am not getting the same problem, so we need to work out what is different.

Has the Table come from a different source? e.g. Word, Numbers. Mine is just a bog standard Pages table.

Do you have any 3rd party App e.g. Typinator, TextExpander or anything else that could be jumping in?

Does the cell have a cell format?

Have you tried this as a basic floating table in a blank page template?

Check that the Title font and the lower cell fonts match.

Weird!

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Presumably you are using Mac OS Sierra 10.12.2, so everything seems to match. Mine is a fresh install so hardly modified, I only just added extra fonts and those are completely extraneous to this.

I have to get back to some urgent work now, but I will look at it again later today. Maybe with a fresh start I might think of something.

Look to see if you have anything different. Endnotes perhaps?

I could successfully set the small caps in the “pm” characters of the Table Name, and then observe their automatic reversion to lower case — with a click elsewhere in the table, or in the document body. All Edit menu : Substitution : sub-menu items were unchecked as a precaution.

It appears as though a reapplication of a hidden style is triggered when mouse focus on the Table Name is lost.

Freshly booted macOS Sierra 10.12.2, and with only Pages v6.0.5 open.

Cheers...
