need help using applescript to export a playlist

I'm trying to use applescript to get iTunes to export the current playlist as XML. I know this can be done via the File ->Export menu but I'd like to script this.

Hi William! 😀

You probably want to do this yourself as it would be more fun! But just thought I would let you know there is a site dedicated to scripts for iTunes:

http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/

If you search for xml you will come up with a couple of scripts which might be what you're looking for. And maybe they can guide you too in developing what you're looking for as well?

Hi,

You can use Smile's xml tools osax to parse the xml also. Apple added xml parsing to System Events also. If you need help with the xml tools, write back. Do you have a iTunes Music Library.xml file in the iTunes folder? I don't know because I'm using Jaguar 10.2.8.

It might be faster using vanilla AppleScript though to parse the file, but it takes more work.

Hi William,

Sorry about that! 😀 Ok I just typed "xml" into the "search scripts" box in the top of the page. Take a look at the first couple of entries...or I linked the first two here:

http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=exportselectedtracksxml

http://www.dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=exportsmartcriteria

Let us know...
