bluegiga ble112 dongle trouble

I just can't get the bluegiga ble112 dongle working.

I purchased it so in theory it would make my Imac from late 2009 (el Capitán) able to run lego wedo 2.0

Supposedly it was just plug and play but the lego software and the robot are not connecting.

The dongle shows up in system profiler as an usb.

However it doesn't show up in the bluetooth explorer (io hardware tools).

Picaxe's "support" was "if it shows up in the system profiler" then it works.

Lego's support was unplug, uninstall, plug and install, but it hasn't done the trick.

Is there any hope?
