When I am in a hotel or a hotspot, and I want to connect to my bank I need a secure way to do so. Is using the Tor browser OK? Does it make it secure? Of course my bank has a HTTPS connection, but i would still be worried about, for example, a 'man-in-the-midle' attack etc.

There is no way for you to make a public hotspot secure. Use https in your browser. Do not use a public hotspot to exchange private data.
Wow, no way to make it secure. is using a Proxy a secure option?
https:// only works as far as I know if the other site has a security certificate. Correct?
