iOS 10.2.1 iPhone 6 brightness problem right after updating

So I always update to the newest version of iOS for improvements etc. but I am certainly going to stop doing that after this awful experience ...

1 hour ago I downloaded & installed iOS 10.2.1 from iOS 10.2 to my iPhone 6.Right after updating the brightness would only change from 1-50% from 50-100% the brightness would not change at all.Apple support in my country told me that they cannot fix that and I have to contact the higher end apple support ?!?!

Im certainly most dissapointed that they didn't even test the iOS for older devices if there are any VERY OBVIOUS bugs like this one ....

How do I fix this now please help me ! I got told I can't downgrade to iOS 10.2 without losing all my data :/

I have the same issue with my iPhone 6s 64gb MKQA2LL/A.

After upgrade to iOS 10.2.1, when battery goes below 75% and 50% - suddenly my display dims and I can't change it back. Brightness slider is on 100%, but screen is dim and it feels like 50%.

Below 75% battery it dims to 70% of brightness and below 50% battery it dims to 50% of brightness.

Besides, if you try to increase brightness, nothing changes from this percentage of the brightness bar (try to split it to %).

There are 2 solutions, how you can fix it till you wait an update from Apple:

1st: Settings --> Display and Brightness --> Display Zoom. (Temporary solution.)

Switching display zoom from Standard to Zoomed and back will fix the problem until the next battery point (below ~50% and ~75%).

2nd: Downgrade to 10.2.

That's right. I am a community member who knows what the Terms of Use of this forum are, and when someone violates them, like posting beta information that is pointless and possibly harmful to other users seeing help, I am going to point that out.

Sorry you are having an issue. But, if you have tried all of the recommendations, and have made adjustments in the Accessibility settings, and have visited Apple, and have still not gotten a resolution, then there is not a whole lot more we, as fellow users, can offer.

We can, however, warn you away from taking half-baked advice from someone who has joined the Beta program without making any effort to understand that, by nature, beta software is unpredictable at best, and, that they singed a very important and binding legal document that explained that for the privilege of being able to be a Beta Tester, they would have to adhere to the non-disclosure agreement that they signed.

This is a user to user technical support community to try to help fellow users with issues. It is not a public forum for airing complaints about Apple. If we can't help, then your next best step is to share your frustration and thoughts with Apple: Apple - Feedback

If the recommendations that we have made have not helped, then we are pretty much at the end of the line as far as being able to provide technical support help.

No one here is an Apple Employee. We are just users like you. We volunteer our time trying to help people get their issues fixed. We don't always enjoy listening to people complain, make threats, or spewing their opinions pointlessly. We cannot help what you don't like. We can help if you have issues. So, if you have issues, and you want to describe them so we can offer whatever it is we think might help, then we will be glad to do so.

If you just want to complain, then you should do that here: Apple - Feedback. Complaints don't interest us much here....

Man this is very easy to solve. I will give you the solution. It is a bug so you can't change it, but you can solve it. Look:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Display&Brightness
  3. Go down to DISPLAY ZOOM
  4. Click on View
  5. Change to Zoomed and click Set
  6. After that, chose Standard and click Set again

Your iPhone will restart soon but after that you'll see that the brightness problem is fixed! Good luck!

I'm having the same issue. As soon as it goes under 50% the screen goes dim. This makes using my phone as a gps when driving extremely dangerous as I can barely see the screen. And that's even if the power is plugged in! A temporary fix is to turn off and on the zoom but it doesn't last long.

If apple doesn't fix I'm going to a different brand!

Yes...I am having the same problems with my 6 Plus. I have also put posts on this site about it. I am very upset and it seems no one cares at all. I am so very, very disappointed. Extremely poor customer service when I called about it. They tried to act like my phone is the problem. My phone is NOT the problem. This bug is not being acknowledged or addressed. I do not believe Steve Jobs would have let this be a problem at all. He would not have let some horrible bug like this even be released.

Dear Donna. I have the same problem. I already contacted few times with support. They didn't help me at all. Now we can't downgrade our phones to 10.2 to fix this issue. I already made bug report and sent it to apple, but they still didn't think that it is software bug (maybe little percent of users are affected?)

Besides here is a link to Forbes with this bug and links to another discussions:

P.S. I seriously will think about about switching to other phone, if such situations will happen in future.

This problem not being acknowledged by Apple even though many people are encountering the same problem is very disappointing. I am waiting to see if the next update corrects the problem. If not, I will be switching to Android because if the problem does not get corrected with the next update that will confirm a decline in both quality and support. It is a shame because these iPhones are extremely expensive. I was preparing to purchase a new iPad. Now I am holding off on that purchase until I see if they step up and fix this screen dimming software bug. Thanks for your reply to my post. I am finding out that you and many others share my exact problem since the iOS 10.2.1 update.

That is a temporary fix. You have to keep doing it. I am holding out a bit for a bug fix and waiting to buy a new iPad. I was about to update my iPad until this happened. If they do not release a fix soon I am going back to Android. The quality of the iPhone has degraded since Steve Jobs passed. He was a stickler for details and demanded perfection. He would have never allowed this bug to be a problem for this long.

Try the following:

First, if you have not reset your device, do so: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple displays (up to 30 seconds). Once the Lock screen displays, see if the issue is resolved. If it is not then:

1. Under Settings>Display & Brightness, try turning off the Auto Brightness

2. Under Settings>General>Accessibility>Display Accomodations, turn on "Reduce White Point" and play with the slider to see if that helps

3. You can also turn on Color Filters and play around with those to see if you can improve the visuals

Best of luck,

Thanks. I did all of that during my first two days of having problems. Apple needs to fix the problem or they will lose customers. It may not really impact them right now but eventually it will. They are waiting way too long to acknowledge and address this problem. I am not going to run out and buy a new iPhone so I can have a fully functioning iPhone. If I get a new phone over this problem it will be Android.

I agree. It is causing all kinds of problems. I am a supervisor in the medical field and my phone is essential. I keep everything on it for my job, utilize Facetime for equipment problems. It has been so frustrating dealing with this screen dimming issue. I have received no help with this issue. When I called about it my service provider implied it was my phone. I had zero problems until the iOS 10.2.1 update.

Feb 26, 2017 10:37 AM in response to TheGalaxyDouble

I had the same problem when I downloaded the ios 10.2.1, so I went the my local Apple Store and the guy told me to try the 10.3 Beta version.

After installing it, it was still the same. But I just installed the last 10.3 update few hours ago and it appears the the problem is gone now!!!

That means this problem will be solved with the future ios 10.3 general update. Be patient folks...
