TV App

Why in the world would the new TV app require an internet connection for watching movies that I've purchased and downloaded on my IPAD? This is ridiculous! The previous VIDEO app allowed me to play these movies. The ONLY reason I purchased an IPAD with the maximum amount of memory was to load all of my movies on it. I travel a lot and I DO NOT want to pay an additional $8 (each way) to get on the airlines WiFi in order to watch something I've already paid for. You need to fix this or I'll be selling this device.

I had the same issue, and spent a bunch of time on support with Apple. One of the senior techs came up with this, and it worked for me. Hopefully it helps.

Double click your home button and clear all open apps by swiping up. Then let’s go to settings>iTunes and app store and tap your Apple ID and sign out. Restart your device and then sign back in. Once done make sure wifi is turned on and go to the tv app and make sure your downloaded content appears. Then go to airplane mode and check if content still plays. Then clear app again and relaunch and test whilst still in airplane mode.

For what it's worth, I've done a couple things to workaround:

1. I've opened the app and started a tv show and paused it. Then just let the app run in the background until I ready to watch without wifi / airplane mode. Worked fine while in airplane mode.

(Once, I opened the app only and when I did not have wifi / airplane mode it reverted to blank screen)

2. After the above happened, I was able to use my iPhone as a hotspot long enough to connect to iPad and open said ****** TV app! . Repeated step 1 and it worked fine after I put in airplane mode.

Agreed! Apple needs to fix it. In the mean time I'll be relying on DirecTV! Too bad for iTunes!

i have been struggling with this problem for a while and when i called apple support was told to try reinstalling iOS and if that didn't work it was probably a hardware problem (Haha, clearly not your Apple Rep.). So i resigned myself to doing what someone else suggested and having the TV app just open all the time -- but after one too many times caught with a hysterical child screaming his head off as i fumbled with the iPad trying to get a movie playing for him... i found your fix. My little one thanks you, I thank you and my previously shot nerves thank you.

Thank you for posting a fix. I was having trouble with this for awhile, then another update corrected the issue, and now the issue is back again. I stopped by the Apple store the other day and the blue shirt was dumbfounded and suggested I make an appointment. I'm glad I logged onto this forum tonight. I also wish Apple would get this issue fixed. I switched everything to Apple because it's supposed to be easier (which I need) and we shouldn't have to find a workaround. If it's downloaded to my iPad, then I should be able to access it anywhere and anytime I want to. I'm saving the fix instructions in case this happens again.

On another but related subject, I have a lot of DVDs I transferred to iTunes Movies with Handbrake and they are available on my G4 ATV along with my purchased content in the "Computers" home sharing. However, only iTunes purchased content and movies display in the TV app. Any way to include these in the TV App along with purchased movies?

If you go to the main TV App menu and select LIBRARY, the only categories displayed are TV SHOWS and MOVIES and they only display purchased content. There is no HOME VIDEOS as in iTunes.

The only way I can access the HOME VIDEOS and all MOVIES is by selecting COMPUTERS. Then, because I have HOME SHARING enabled in ITunes, my library is displayed - MY MUSIC, MOVIES purchased and imported), TV SHOWS, HOME VIDEOS and PHOTOS.

Then why are you posting in the iPad forums if this is NOT an iPad issue?

This post is about the iOS TV App on iPads/iPhones/iPod Touches.

I assumed you are using the TV App on an iDevices, like an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad!

I have no clue how the TV App works on an Apple TV.

I don't own an Apple TV.

In the TV App on an iDevice, converted movie/video content gets saved to the Home Videos section.

You have a completely different device and situation going!

Post your question in the Apple TV or iTunes forums!

Thank You.
