remove facetime from contacts app

Restrictions can remove the facetime app icon, however my child can still go to the contact app and click on the facetime link next to the contact. How can facetime be blocked all together, in other words how can I remove the facetime links from the contact list or block incoming facetime calls?

Hey applesmartz,

This isn't what the customer needs. This just restricts use of the FaceTime application and the customer already tried this. If you do this on your own iPhone, you will see that you can still make and receive FaceTime calls from the Phone application when FaceTime is disabled in restrictions. I even attempted to delete the application and you're still able to make and receive FaceTime calls in the Phone application.

The only solution I've seen, is to turn it off under Settings > FaceTime, but it can easily be turned back on.

I don't think we are talking about same thing. I am NOT saying to turn it off, I am NOT saying to delete the app.

Restrictions are protected by a password you set and cannot be turned back on without the password you set. And clicking on the email will only compose a message, not offer Facetime. Siri won't even make a FaceTime call with restrictions enabled.

Go to settings/general/restrictions, then click to enable, set a password, then turn Facetime off.

Hey again,

This is incorrect information, I've tested it myself. Turning FaceTime off under Restrictions just makes the application leave the home screen. You can still go into the Contacts application, tap on a contact and FaceTime that contact. The poster already said they turned FaceTime off under restrictions and they can still make FaceTime calls from the Contacts application. Again, I verified this to be correct by turning FaceTime off in my own restrictions and placing a FaceTime call via the Contacts application.

All I am saying is that for some reason you're able to make a FaceTime video call from the Contacts application even if FaceTime is off under Settings > Restrictions.

OKay, I had this problem and like you, I thought it was a stupid oversight of Apple's which allows FaceTime calls to be initiated from the Contacts app when FaceTime is restricted (off).

But it does work. It's just not very intuitive. Here's how to do it.

  1. Enable FaceTime under Restrictions.
  2. Go to the main Settings and under FaceTime, switch it off.
  3. Go back into Restrictions and switch FaceTime off.

FaceTime has now disappeared from the main Settings menu, so it can't be switched back on.

Hey there,

I did some research and I am unable to find a definitive answer as to if this can be done other then turning it off in settings, which she can just turn back on... I've deleted the application all together and even after doing that, you're still able to use the phone application to take video calls.

Deleting the app, and turning it off in settings won't work. I am saying enable the Restriction setting for Facetime. It disables the service.

I believe you now, I was proving information based on my personal experience. Take a look at my screen shots, I am still able to make FaceTime calls from my Contacts application when FaceTime is disabled in Settings > Restrictions. If both myself and the poster are having this issue, there could be something wrong with the iOS.

1. Delete app- won't work

2. Turn off FaceTime in setting- won't work

3. Settings/general/restrictions/enable restrictions, then create a passcode to access options, then turn off FaceTime.

If you are using option 3 you will not be able to make a FaceTime call from anywhere in the phone.

On advice of Wireless Zone locally, I was able to first TURN OFF RESTRICTIONS. Then in settings TURN OFF FACETIME, then TURN ON RESTRICTIONS again, then DISABLE FACETIME in restrictions. When I exited restrictions it was gone from contacts. ie it seems FaceTime must be off before disabling it in restrictions then restrictions must be on thereafter. Confusing but I seem to be OK with my daughter's i 6s for the moment.
