I saw in a reply to an iMac CRT question that Kenichi Watanabe mentioned an Apple tech manual pdf he was able to download. Can anyone tell me how to find where to download an Apple tech manual? I want to swap the CRTs between to iMac G3s and I need a procedure to follow,as I have seen many warnings about high voltage discharge from the CRT and I'd rather not risk electrocution. Thanx, and happy holidays to all,
Sometimes what appears to be a dead CRT monitor (black screen) can really be a case of an iMac G3 CRT slot loader not having a firmware update installed before upgrading to OS X. If that were the case, swapping monitors wouldn't help a thing.
You need a CRT discharge tool to do what you propose. A manual can be downloaded from this site: <http://www.mrjcd.com/>
But make sure you aren't dealing with a firmware issue before going to all that trouble. <http://www.gileskennedy.com/panthereatsimac>
I have made 7 attempts to download the slot load tech manual from this site and all I get is a cover page for some Quick time thing, I can't seem to get the PDF. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
If you have a slot-load iMac G3, this is the link: <http://mrjcd.com/slot-load
iMac_repair/slot-loadimac.pdf>
This is a 14MB pdf file.
If you have a tray-load iMac G3, this is the link: <http://mrjcd.com/tray-load
iMacrepair/imac.pdf>
This is a 9MB pdf file.
I don't know why you are getting a message regarding QuickTime??? You will need a broadband internet connection (or a lot of time) in order to download either of these files. Some web browsers will open a pdf file (if the browser has the Adober Reader plugin). So, it will either open in your browswer or download, depending...
5 more attempts and 2 trys at the tray load pdf.why can't I open this file? I'm downloading via Safari with a DSL connection, takes about 8 minutes, then I get a screen that shows some kinda blue logo, and 3 titles, iMac slot loader,iMac D.V., and iMac S.E., but nothing else. There's an arrow that seems like it should open a file or a link but it does nothing. Is there any other way or place to get this tech manual download?Any help will be much appreciated
I can download it fine from both a Mac and a Windows PC using Safari and Mozilla Firefox, respectively.
You may want to be sure you're using the latest version of Adobe Reader and/or try using another computer to download the file. You need to be patient because that site is being served on an original iMac. It's not a commercial site, it's just on someone's personal computer. It is very slow.
Well, I finally was able to download the manual , tho I am ashamed to say it, on my e-machine PC! Since I never use the thing I've gotta figure out how to save the file, but I'll just keep the link open till I can print or save it. Thanx to all for the help, will update my progress. Happy New Year to all
Praise the little football headed Mac guy!!! Got the PDF of the tech manual downloaded and saved on my G4 via AOL. Time to cut up an iMac!. Thanx again to all
Be really careful and read as much information as you can find on the safe handling and discharge of CRT monitors. Do a Google search for "discharge crt".
Not only is there a danger of implosion, but there is danger of death by electrocution. Make sure you do not work on it while you are alone.
Here's a good article on the process: <http://www.macmod.com/content/view/232/2/>
