Instaling Windows 10 on MacBook pro 2012 issue with MBR

Hi all

Im having an issue with trying to install windows 10 onto my MacBook pro (mid) 2012 non retina running Sierra 10.12.2. ( listed as supports windows 10 on the apple website so I know I'm good )

Now the issue I'm having is after I've created a USB drive with Windows 10 on and made a petition (50GB) using Bootcamp. I have followed all the instructions.

When I restart and hold down the (alt) button and boot from the partition created. It goes through windows install process as normal but when i get the the part where I select the 50GB drive i created to install windows it says -

" Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only installed on GPT disks."

Now Ive looked into google to find a fix and there are lots of conflicting results and quite frankly I'm not that technical. I have seen GPT fixes on the web such as http://macriot.com/mcrt/?p=2362

But i feel I'm having a different issue.

Please any ideas ?!

many thanks

1. Boot into OS X, connect the USB. If it is under High-speed bus at 480Mbps, it is USB2 otherwise it is a USB3. USB3 will not work.

2. Your 2012 MBP (I have a 13-in non-Retina) is a preUEFI Mac and does not support EFI Boot fully. For example, your Audio will not work, if you use EFI Boot.

3. Your partitioning is correct and should be a Hybrid MBR.

The Windows article also mentions BC drivers. Not all Macs use RealTek drivers, so the solutions do not apply.

The video shows re-installing/repairing BC drivers. If you use EFI Boot on a 2012 model, your Audio hardware is not exposed to Windows correctly. No amount of re-installing BC drivers is going to fix the issue.

Your 2012 Mac has Cirrus Audio hardware. This is W10 on my Mac. Notice the BIOS Mode on the right hand side.

*MacBook Pro No Sound in Windows 7*

Posted by Geek on +Jul 23rd, 2010+

* You are running Vista or Windows 7 on a Macbook

* You have no or low audio/ sound. In macbook pro, you may also see a red light in your audio jack.

*Step 1:* Download the Macbook Pro Cirrus Logic CS4206A Driver from our server.

+(As a request, please do not hotlink this file anywhere else or our server will automatically remove the file from server.)+

+In case the above download link does not work google+ CirrusAudio.10.6.1.zip

*Step 2:* Extract the right type of Driver

(depending on your windows XP/ 7/ 32 bit/ 64bit)

Step3: for Windows 7 only: Right Click on exe file of driver.

Select Properties> Compatibility > run in compatibility mode

Select Windows Vista from drop down menu and Click OK

*Step 4:* Double click the driver and install."

Hi

Thanks for the reply. When I create the partition from boot drive and the machine restarts its self after it goes straight to a black screen with " no boot device detected" on a black screen. The USB is plugged in and it is bootable because when I restart the machine and hold the option key I choose the created Boot drive not the windows USB and it then boots windows. But I have the issue...

"Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only installed on GPT disks."

Just so you guys know what Im working with just incase I've missed something.

MacBook Pro 15 inch non retina Mid 2012 with CD drive.

Intelcore i7

16GB ram

500gb memory

Intel HD Graphics 4000

NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB

I downloaded Windows 10 64bit ( according to apple support I'm compatible with that? )

Used bootcamp to create the USB and partition the HD with a 50GB space for Windows.

allowed it to restart and it went to black screen with "no boot device"

so restarted held option key and chose "efiboot" if I choose the "Windows usb" I get the

"no boot device" on the black screen. (I've remade the usb 5 times with same error)

click on EFIBOOT and the windows logo comes up and go through the process choose the bootcamp partition and get error " Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only installed on GPT disks."

Now I purchased a USB stick for it recently and am unsure if its a 2.0 or 3.0 I just got a 16GB usb I took it out of the packet and threw it away so unsure what speed it is as it doesn't have any label on it.

Or should I be making a CD boot. ?

Thanks for the help.

The Apple BC setup.exe does the same and picks the correct drivers. You do not really need the separate drivers, because there are different families of Cirrus hardware. EFI Boot will not show the hardware for the drivers to instal correctly.

One the right-hand window, look under the "Item" column and check the "BIOS Mode" value. It shows legacy. The left-hand window shows the specific Cirrus driver installed.
