Water damage help

So I have a Macbook Pro 13in early 2016 model, and I spilled sprite on my keyboard. I immediately turned it upside down to dry out, and see if that would help. It didn't work or show any indications of surviving the spill, I went to the Apple Store and was told the best option was for them to send it in. Which would cost $800, I didn't completely rule that option out but it wasn't a priority. I have tried recently to plug the charger in, to see any indication that it worked. To my luck, the orange charging light turned on. So I then tried to boot it, it booted up smoothly and there seemed to be no real issues it was charging, all the keys worked, etc...The only real issue is that it shut off out of nowhere, and won't turn back on or show any indications that it is charging anymore. What could be the cause of this?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

So it wasn't water (your topic header), it was soda. Soda has sugar (or substitutes) which sticks things together. It has acids (carbonic and phosphoric) which are corrosive. It has other stuff in it to gum up the functioning of the keys.

It may be your booting it the first time fried something inside and may now cost more than the initial estimate. 😟 Never turn on a device if you suspect water damage. If it has really just been water you may have been lucky and letting it dry out might have been enough. With soda its a mess.

Sorry about the tittle, and I hope I didn't mess things up to severely. I've been torn about getting it fixed too, since I knew a new model was coming out. Don't know whether to fix it or upgrade, even though mine is little over a year old. Just would rather know, if having the store repair it would be less expensive than paying the $800 to send it in.
