Unable to add a contact to a group

I Am unable to add a contact to a group of tenants. Does the tenant have a right to decline being added to the group? His name comes out red and will not add to the existing group.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.2.1

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to add someone to an existing group message in the Messages app. This could be happening for two reasons:


1. The existing group message only has iPhone users and this contact doesn’t use an iPhone, so they cannot be added to an existing group of iPhone users in the Messages app.


2. This is a group SMS message, meaning there are already iPhone and non-iPhone users and cannot be modified as this article shows:

You can’t add or remove people from group MMS messages or group SMS messages.



Send a group message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Either way, the best solution is to start a new group message thread that includes this new contact. Cheers!
