canon hr10 dvd-rw video download to iMovie

How can I download videos from a Canon HR10 camcorder using a min DVD-RW. I have videos and can view them on the camera, but when I connect to Mac (OS X El Capitan), I don't see the device in Finder and/or anything in iMovie. It's connected via USB.

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you want to get content from your Canon VIXIA HR10 to iMovie on your MacBook Pro. I checked the following support article that identifies cameras supported by iMovie: iMovie supported cameras I was not able to locate that model camera in the list.

I was able to locate this support page for that camera on Canon's web site: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/camcorders/sup port-high-definition-camcorders/vixia-hr10

That page contains links to download manuals and software, one piece of software is listed as being for Mac OS X. That should allow you to get the video from the camera to your MacBook Pro and once it is on your computer, you should be able to import it to iMovie.
