itunes 12.5.5.5 - library now empty?

Hi ... sure hope you can help!

I updated iTunes today to 12.5.5.5 and when I opened iTunes to play some music, all my music is missing from my library, except for the last 2 tunes that I played before the update.

I was also surprised, via a message within the library, that somehow my music has ended up in iCloud Music library (I don't recall ever using this Apple service).

How do I get my music back? Any advice much appreciated.

I should also note that I immediately went to my iPhone and to my consternation, all the music on my iPhone 6 no longer resides on my iPhone but has to be individually downloaded from the cloud? How do I download all of it at once?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

I don't think anyone can trace it to a specific cause. You could probably do it again and it wouldn't happen. If it were happening to millions of users there could be a bug but it's just a handful relative to the total number of iTunes updates taking place. It's just a good example of why it is a good idea to backup your hard drive before doing any major software updates.
