random reboots and Cisco AnyConnect

I would appreciate your help with the following problem. It seems that AnyConnect Client software 3.1.100.10 that my university uses for VPN causes random reboots on my MacBook Pro running Sierra OS. Here's a few lines from the system.log just prior to a recent reboot:

Feb 5 15:15:23 VMrMBP17 acvpnagent[43]: Function: getInterfaces File: ../../vpn/Common/Utility/NetInterface_unix.cpp Line: 1330 missing PPP destination address for interface "utun6". Check profile PPPExclusion (set to Automatic?) or contact your administrator.

Feb 5 15:15:26 VMrMBP17 diagnosticd[236]: Streaming server Unresponsive

Feb 5 15:15:26 VMrMBP17 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.xpc.launchd.domain.system): System reboot initiated by: eoshostd.192<-launchd.1

In addition to reboots, I'm also experiencing problems when switching user accounts: the system sometimes would just logout all users from the Mac. The system.log file is filled with VPN error messages. Please, see below. I'm wondering if it's a know problem and if there is a solution.

Thanks

The solution to that, or similar problems, would be for Cisco to fix their software.

Look to see if you have any kernel panic logs in /Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports/.

There are other things that might be causing the restarts, but kernel panics are the most common.

There were some similar posts about cisco AnyConnect when Sierra was released, but I'm not sure how common it is.

It could be an interaction with other software. The kernel panic log might indicate if there is something else loaded.

But, I would imagine it is caused by AnyConnect.

Someone else may know if it still causes problems.

Unfortunately my university VPN is setup with 3.x and was not upgraded to 4.x. I don't see anyway to upgrade to 4.x myself as a user.

But I think I found a way around the problem. I obtained the PCF file for our VPN and was able to setup a VPN access through macOS Network Settings without using Cisco AnyConnect (by following the instructions here http://tedwise.com/2010/03/30/setup-a-cisco-vpn-in-osx-using-a-pcf-file )

I have completely removed Cisco AnyConnect from my Mac. Hopefully, this resolves the problem.

Looks like Cisco is not the culprit. The computer rebooted again, this time with a panic log. I already wiped once the drive and did a clean install of the OS (importing only user data). I really don't know what the next step should be. I wonder if it's a hardware issue. I would appreciate your help with this.

Thanks. For some reason it does not create panic logs every time reboots happen.

I just spent an hour on the phone with Apple Care. They were not particularly interested in the panic log. They want me to erase everything, re-install the OS, and use the computer for a while without importing my user data or installing any non-apple software. Looks like I have no choice but do that. They are not willing to go any further before that's done.

Feb 28, 2017 1:35 PM in response to Barney-15E

Reinstalling the OS did not help, the issue was still there. Cisco is obviously not the problem, as the computer keeps crashing.

I took the computer to an Apple Store for testing, which discovered nothing.

A senior Apple Care advisor authorized a replacement of the logic board. I picked up the computer after the replacement of the board a couple of days ago. The OS has been wiped and re-installed (they say that the SSD is built into the logic board and replaced with it).

The computer worked for two days until it WindowServer crashed when switching between users. I've been experiencing this issue from the start along with kernel panic and reboots: when switching between logged-in accounts using the touch bar, the computer would log out all users and generate a crash log (see below).

When that happened last time, the computer did not have any non-Apple software, I also did not use the Migration Assistant and moved my data manually.

I spoke with the same Apple Care advisor again, and they want to do another replacement of the logic board. By the first replacement of the logic board not only did not do anything to resolve the problem but maybe even made things worse: now the computer from time to time makes weird cracking/popping noises. I can't say if they come from the speakers or are mechanical.

Anyways, I don't think I have a choice but take it for the replacement of the logic board again. It's been a very frustrating experience so far, but I'm determined to keep working with them until they either fix my computer or replace it with a new one.

I am experiencing the same problem and just reinstalled my system, because I had random reboots and the login screen was hanging for a very long time after hibernation. That problem is gone after the clean install, but i am still experiencing random reboots. i always had a feeling the touchbar is responsible..
