MacBook Pro: FN keys not working

Hi everybody, I'm having a problem with my MacBook Pro built-in keyboard. The model is 13" mid-2012 non-retina. The fn keys between F1 and F9 do not work. Instead, the "esc" key, the keys between f10 (the volume ones) and eject work perfectly. I tried reinstalling Sierra, resetting NVRAM and SMC several times, but none of these solved the problem. I am also having this issue in the Windows partition. Can you please help me?

Thanks in advance

HI belgio99,

I understand that you are having some issues using your function keys on your MacBook Pro both in macOS and in Windows using Boot Camp. I'm happy to provide some help with this issue.

You can adjust the behavior of your function keys using the steps in the following articles:

Change the behavior of function keys on your Mac - Apple Support

  1. If you’re viewing the Windows 8 Start screen, click Desktop to view the Windows desktop.

  2. While viewing the Windows desktop, click the Boot Camp icon User uploaded file in the system tray, then choose Boot Camp Control Panel.

If you don’t see the Boot Camp icon User uploaded file in the system tray, click the triangle to show hidden icons.

  3. If a User Account Control dialog appears, click Yes.

  4. Click Keyboard.

  5. Select or deselect “Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys.”

Use the function keys on an Apple keyboard - Boot Camp Control Panel Help

If you prefer the top row of keys to always behave as standard function keys without holding the Fn key:

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Click Keyboard.
  3. Click the Keyboard tab if it's not already highlighted.
  4. Select "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys"

With this option enabled, the keys on the top row act as standard function keys (F1–F12). To use a feature indicated by the icon printed on a key, hold Fn while pressing the key.
