Mac Crashing Daily - Panic Report

Hi everyone, I'm a regular Mac user (at work and home) and have been for over 10 years, but recently my late 2013 iMac 27-inch at home has developed a problem that I've only had occasionally in the past before. Every day for the past few weeks, when I've woken my Mac up from sleep, it tells me it has been restarted because of a problem, and gives me a panic report.

I've tried unplugging various peripherals as I've read that these can be causing the problem, but not found anything to have worked yet. My iMac seems to be running quite slow as well, particularly when doing things like opening up the System Preferences (things that usually open instantly).

Here's a description of my spec:

macOS Sierra 10.12.3
3.2GHz Intel Core i5

24GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Hard disk has 527GB available

Here is a link to the Panic Report: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zb01u4gb604442v/error%20report.txt?dl=0

Would anybody be able to tell me what the problem could be? Thanks in advance!

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

You did not submit any panic report. If you are experiencing Kernel Panics then please post your last KP report using the instructions in Mac OS X: How to log a kernel panic - Apple Support

Other wise, please post an EtreCheckreport of your system. We can then look for obvious issues. Please click the link, download the app and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste it as your reply to this post.

If you would like more info on what EtreCheck is, simply click the link and you will find a description of the app.

Sorry I meant the kernel report is a dropbox link. Here is my EtreCheck:

Despite having AVG and Dr Cleaner uninstalled, my Mac has continued to crash unfortunately. I've just done another EtreCheck. Any ideas what could be causing it?

I would start by completely removing the AVG anti-virus software, There is NO Mac anti-virus package that does not mangle performance. Use their instructions:

https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=How-to-uninstall-AVG-Ant iVirus-for-Mac

As noted in that link, do NOT try to unistall by simply dragging the app to the trash. It can leave harmful bits behind.

Once that bit of scamware is off your computer, test for stability and please report back with your findings.

Feb 8, 2017 11:38 AM in response to natwooddraws

You have already received sound advice, uninstall the Antivirus software by following the developers instructions for doing so.

Mac OS does not need any third party cleaning, antivirus, or ANY third party maintenance utilities. If simply kept up-to-date and otherwise left alone Mac OS will remain extremely secure and for most users run reliably for years.

Hello again natwooddraws,

If you run the Console.app, kernel panics will be available in the left hand sidebar. I'm on my iPad so I'm not sure which submenu they are under. They are available from your EtreCheck report too, under the "Details" link. I need to make those available without having to run another EtreCheck report.

Normally at this point, I would recommend a new hard drive. But since you are having kernel panics, there might be some other hardware failure going on.

Mar 5, 2017 7:32 AM in response to etresoft

Thanks for this. I always thought it might be my scanner for some reason, but I've had that unplugged for a month as a test to see if it still did it and it did. Here's the Kernel panic:

Based on what I see from your report, it appears you may have some type of hardware fault. I would strongly recommend that you first run Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test. Neither test is very reliable but that is all you have. If you run them run in Extended Mode 2-3 times back to back to give them a chance to locate errors. If errors are found they are correct and only tell you an error code which means for most you should take the computer to your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider to be repaired.

Even if errors are not found you should still take it in, therefore running the tests likely won't be a lot of value.

Good luck.

Hello again natwooddraws,

I agree with rkaufmann87. I'm not the best at diagnosing hardware faults. But if I had to guess, I would guess a bad RAM chip. If your Apple Hardware Test returns a RAM failure, remove those two 8 GB RAM chips and test it again. Your EtreCheck report above has instructions on how to upgrade your RAM. You can do those in reverse and remove chips too.
