AirPods FaceTime buzzing glitch

When I make FaceTime (Audio) calls with my AirPods, I get a loud, buzzing error noise that makes me unable to use them during calls. This started when I tired changing the input and output sources between my MacBook's (Retina 2012) and AirPod's microphones and speakers. I tried repairing them, and the issue still happens. Do I have a defective pair?

Hi Mattheis16,

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you've heard buzzing from your AirPods during FaceTime audio calls. You've tried some good steps so far. Let's see if we can isolate the cause of this behavior a bit further.

First, be sure to restart your Mac if you haven't already. Additionally, reset the NVRAM using the steps in How to reset NVRAM on your Mac .

Next, try using your AirPods again. If you still hear the buzzing in FaceTime, try using other applications and see if the same thing happens.

If the buzzing happens in multiple apps, I'd recommend going through the following Support articles to identify any sources of potential interference:

Potential sources of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference
Bluetooth: Unreliable wireless performance may occur when USB 3.0 external devices are close

Let us know the results of these tests and we'll go from there.

All the best.
