Can I download 4k video from GOPRO Hero5 Black onto my new iMac. Would Final Cut Pro X assist in this?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

Hello Moshe30 and welcome to the Apple Support Communities! You can download videos from your GoPro Hero 5 to your iMac. You can do that by a) plug it into your iMac with the micro usb cable b) use an micro-sd card reader. Final Cut Pro X can edit videos shot in 4k, but depending on your iMac. For an example, I can edit 4k video on my Mac Pro Early 2009 with it lagging and some frame drops. I hope this helps!

Our experiences with GoPro clips has led us to a different process. We usually use GoPro's software to convert the 2k and 4K clips to prores 422. This creates huge files (we've got plenty of room) but the risks and possible glitches have all been eliminated. We might take another look at his procecdure when we finish our updates from FCPX 190.2 to 10.3

Thanks David, my son who uses the GoPro Hero5 Black will look into the ProRes 422. I am not sure how he was downloading onto my iMac (new model 5K with all the available upgrades) but for his test clips in 4k he indicated it was very slow. Not sure if that is normal since there apparently were no downloading issues with 2k. He was able to download onto his iPhone 6s Plus in 2k with no problem.

I think I may take the plunge and get the Final Cut Pro X as well.
