where can I check raid status for HHD?

Where can I check the RAID info of my external HHD?

I have a raid setup, but I forgot how big each of the drives are and if it RAID 0. I tried opening Disk Utility but even there I can't find any info?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12)

As you can see, if your external device is a RAID set it has been built in a manner that is opaque to macOS and you are not going to be able to use diskUtil or 'Disk Utility' to play with it.

Anyway, this is not a great place to get advice about WD drives and software - try WD's 'Thingy' forum. I can tell you, however, that I treat WD disk drivers and utilities with extreme prejudice. I don't mind their hardware but I won't have their software installed on any Mac I use or am responsible for.

Strange! Now I ran it a second time to reply to you, and I can still see the first attempt in the Terminal: "No AppleRAID sets found"

However, now that I ran it a second time it IS actually showing me information on both the internal and the external drives. I don't see any RAID info though? It's a WD thingy where you slide down internal disks down from the top. Am I remembering it wrong, and I actually used some tool from Western Digital to create the raid? Hmmmm.

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk0

1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1

2: Apple_CoreStorage NeXT 499.2 GB disk0s2

3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3

/dev/disk1 (internal, virtual):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: NeXT +498.9 GB disk1

Logical Volume on disk0s2

(erased by me)

Unlocked Encrypted

/dev/disk2 (external, physical):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme *1.0 TB disk2

1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk2s1

2: Apple_CoreStorage SilverBox 999.2 GB disk2s2

3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk2s3

/dev/disk3 (disk image):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: Keys +41.0 MB disk3

/dev/disk5 (external, virtual):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: SilverBox Cinema +998.9 GB disk5

Logical Volume on disk2s2

(erased by me)

Unlocked Encrypted

If the RAID has been created using Apple's built-in software - so called software RAID aka Apple RAID then the diskutil appleRAID list command would list the details.

However it sounds like your particular Wester Digital external drive is using its own built-in hardware RAID.

Note: Generally hardware RAID is superior to software RAID.

Since it presumably is WD's own hardware RAID the Apple tools will not show the details, as cdhw said it is invisible to the Mac. However WD do provide a tool to manage their hardware RAID. See http://support.wdc.com/knowledgebase/answer.aspx?ID=3526
